Jusant: Get a Grip on Its Fantastic Climbing Mechanic
Jusant arrives on Xbox Series X|S and PC (with Game Pass) today – a gorgeous, meditative climbing experience that sees you making your way, handhold-by-handhold, up a gigantic tower in search of answers as to what happened to this fantastical world. It’s part-Ico, part-Free Solo, but truly unique in its execution.
As you’d expect, with climbing at the centre of all this, the developers at Don’t Nod have put a lot of thought into the act of getting up the tower – this doesn’t feel quite like any other game in the way you make your way through the world. With that in mind, here are some spoiler-free tips for how to climb with confidence as you discover Jusant’s secrets.
Grasp the Basics
In most games, climbing is as simple as holding down a button and pushing your left stick in the right direction. Jusant is different. Here, you have individual control of each of your hands, which can be directed with the left stick, and can individually grab parts of the environment with a push of the left or right trigger.
Climbing, then, is a case of keeping a grip on wherever you currently are, pushing the other hand to the next grip, grabbing that, and letting go of the first. For bigger gaps, you can jump, and even double jump (effectively bouncing you off the wall in a risky manoeuvre). Once you have the rhythm, it feels amazing to scramble up near-sheer cliff faces.
Piton a Show
You begin the game with your trusty rope and carabiner – which will auto-attach to the wall each time you start a story-path climb. This means that, wherever you are, you have a tether point that should stop you from falling too far. However, you also begin with three pitons, which can be attached to the wall almost anywhere, and offer you a new tether point.
Think of these like manual checkpoints – about to make a risky jump? Attach a piton so that if you miscalculate, you aren’t sent all the way back to the start of your climb. Luckily, pitons are only consumable during a climb – when you reach the next stable piece of ground, they’ll regenerate – so don’t be shy to use them. You can even use a piton to create a tether you can purposely drop from, and use your rope to wallrun to a new position – it looks and feels spectacular.
Rest Easy
How far you can climb is governed by a stamina bar, which drains while you’re moving. Your maximum stamina also drops each time you jump – meaning the more you use your most powerful moves, the less stamina you have to work with for the rest of the climb.
To balance that, stopping at any part of a climb and clicking in the left stick will let you rest, sending your stamina bar back up to its current maximum level – if you’re struggling to reach your next goal, make sure to rest and carry on in confidence.
Take the Path Less Travelled
Jusant makes it clear where you should go by placing clear points for your carabiner to attach to. But this doesn’t mean those are your only paths. The carabiner can be attached to most walls by holding X, which opens up more paths than you’d expect – and it pays to look around.
Thankfully, you’ll have some help in that regard – you’re not alone on this journey. Accompanying you is the Ballast, a mysterious (and devastatingly cute) companion who has a connection to the tower you’re climbing. After a certain point, Ballast can use an Echo ability, showing the approximate locations of not just your next objective, but also hidden items and points of interest – using Echo can be a key way of showing you where to head off the beaten path.
As a voice-less game, the way to learn about Jusant’s strange and fascinating story is to find some of these hidden elements, and these can be found in some pretty out-of-the way locations, often providing puzzles in and of themselves. If you see a ledge that leads to a room you haven’t seen before, or a suspicious path that leads to a sheer drop, make sure to attach your carabiner and drop down for a look – you never know what you’ll find. Even if you don’t find something tangible, the views are always spectacular.
This Is Just the Start
As you continue your climb, you’ll learn new ways to make your way up the tower – I won’t spoil those here, as the game really is all about discovery, but suffice it to say that what I’ve talked about above is only the beginning of your ascent…
Jusant is a brand-new action-puzzle climbing game and a meditative journey to the top of a tall tower. Challenge yourself at your own pace, explore different paths, and unravel the secrets from a bygone civilization.
Experience climbing like never before
Master your climbing tools and watch your stamina meter to successfully navigate this mysterious and changing tower. As you go higher and hone your skills, you’ll have to figure out how best to use the tools at your disposal to get to where you want to go. Explore alternative paths to find clues about what happened here.
Relax and bask in nature
Play at your own pace. As you climb, you’ll come across breathtaking biomes full of flora and fauna, accompanied by a peaceful and atmospheric soundtrack. Brace yourself on arid, windy slopes, seek refuge in tunnels lit only by bioluminescence, and more.
Journey with a companion made of water
Meet the mysterious Ballast. This creature will help guide you throughout your journey by waking nature along your path and helping to reveal clues that will help you piece together the tower’s past and reach the top.

Of course, Halloween is the perfect time to pick up a horror game – but horror comes in so many forms. One person may be in the mood for the sultry, sickening delights of a vampire tale, while others might be looking for the pulse-quickening terror and gore of a slasher story.
Thankfully, Xbox Game Pass doesn’t just have a plethora of interactive horror stories to get you in the mood for Spooky Season – it has horror games of all kinds, and even games that might not feel like horror to play, but draw on some classic tropes. No matter how you want to celebrate the darkest day of the year, we’ve got something for you.
In this list, you’ll find games spread across 10 different genres of horror, all available with a Game Pass membership – we’re sure you’ll find something to chill you or thrill you.
Slasher
When you think of horror movies, you probably think of the slasher genre first. Recreating the panic and adrenaline of the kill is what drives the likes of Halloween, Friday the 13th, and more. In recent years, developers have realized that letting players play on both sides of the slasher and victim coin is a very fun way to recreate that thrill in a game.
Dead By Daylight (available with Xbox Game Pass for Console and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate) began as Behavior Interactive’s original take on the slasher genre, pitting teams of human Survivors against a range of Killers. As it grew in popularity, the game began bringing in beloved characters from your favorite horror films and video games. Play as the Xenomorph, Ghostface, the Demogorgon and many more classic on-screen Killers, helping you create the slasher line-up of your nightmares.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre(available with Xbox Game Pass for Console and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate) offers a similar set-up, but expands the line-up – this co-op/competitive frightfest has three members of Leatherface’s family chasing down teams of victims. It shouldn’t be fun to be this evil… but it really, really is. – Joe Skrebels
Zombies
Over the years, the term “zombie” has evolved, and often encompasses other disturbing human-like mutated monsters – but typically speaking, zombies are reanimated corpses that have been turned into mindless creatures that feed on human flesh or brains. They are a popular foe in horror video games, and Game Pass has some great zombie games for you to play!
If you ever wondered what it would take to survive the zombie apocalypse, look no further than State of Decay 2(available with Xbox Game Pass Core, Xbox Game Pass for Console, PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate). Battle through hordes of zombies and guide a community to scavenge precious resources and fortify your home base from attacks. For those players who want the thrill without the existential dread, check out Green Zone (a friendlier apocalypse!) or play co-op with up to three friends and fight to survive together. With frequent new updates (including one earlier this month), you’ll regularly find new challenges and ways to play.
The Walking Deadseries of video games (available with Xbox Game Pass for Console and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate), based on the iconic comic books by Robert Kirkman, are essentially choose-your-own-adventure stories with some quick time events sprinkled in. They are gritty and bleak, and require you to make extremely difficult decisions with life and death consequences. Grab a tissue or two, you may need it.
If you’re after something a little more action-packed, Zombie Army 4: Dead War(available with Xbox Game Pass for Console, PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate) takes place in a reimagined 1940s Europe during WWII, as you fight to save humanity from an army of undead soldiers hell-bent on unleashing Armageddon. Forget storyline, base building, and survival planning, mowing down hordes of zombies with awesome weaponry and enhanced melee combat is the only thing that matters in this first-person shooter! – Rich Dickinson
Aliens
We’ve come a long way from fearing little green men in their aluminium-clad flying saucers. The fear today isn’t so much worrying about visitors from another world, but that something wants to consume us in many possible (and incredibly grotesque) ways. Throw a little bit of humankind’s hubris into the mix to make these situations significantly more dire, and you have a recipe for some excellent extraterrestrial horror.
Few have captured this better than the now-classic Dead Space Trilogy, and again with the excellent Dead Space remake (available with EA Play as part of Game Pass Ultimate). In both instances, it’s a tale of mankind reaching too far into that alien darkness of space and then not being able to contend with what happens when it grabs back. The “planet cracker” USG Ishimura, a gigantic starship featured significantly in the first game, is a great metaphor of humankind’s constant interference in nature (with them being the alien invader this time around). All the games in the series are brilliant examples of the survival horror genre as well and are must-plays for fans of sci-fi, horror, and alien-born plagues.
Prey(available with Xbox Game Pass for Console and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate) is also a great example of humankind’s unfortunate encounter with hostile aliens. In this instance, it’s the alien Typhon that hold a significant upper hand over the player from the onset. The game’s iconic Mimics will haunt your dreams and your days, as you repeatedly ask yourself “Is that a mug, or is an alien in disguise trying to kill me?” Again, hubris is at the core of what kickstarts this adventure as the Typhon break containment, but the aliens also serve to be key to your player’s survival – you can utilize their powers to fight back. The push and pull dynamic of relying on the power of your alien enemy, and in a way having to become an alien yourself (if you hope to survive), is an incredibly unique gaming experience you don’t want to miss from the master game designers at Arkane Austin. – Mike Nelson
Supernatural Thrillers
As expected, there’s no shortage of poltergeists in Ghostwire: Tokyo(available with Xbox Game Pass for Console, PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate). Nearly everyone in bustling Shibuya has mysteriously vanished leaving a Tokyo overrun by Yokai, vengeful supernatural forces that prowl the streets. The game provides a whistlestop tour of Japanese folklore and urban legends; possessed salarymen, scissor-wielding femmes fatale, and so many murderous schoolgirls. While Ghostwire: Tokyo is more about atmospheric creeps and tense action/combat than outright scares, when an evil Yokai shows up, prepare to jump out of you chair. After particularly intense moments, I found myself heading to a nearby (in-game) konbini to visit the proprietors, most of whom have been turned into adorable merchant cats. – Jeff Rubenstein
Body Horror
Cronenberg movies, Akira, that scene in Alien – film creators have been imagining twisted ways to, well, twist the human body for decades, and it’s not a surprise that games would follow a similar path. On Game Pass, look no further than Scorn(available with Xbox Game Pass for Console, PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate), a queasy first-person puzzler in which everything looks as though it’s some horribly warped version of what was once recognizable flesh. Scorn draws its power in making its world as repellent as its puzzles are compulsive.
While we can’t say too much about Inside(available with Xbox Game Pass Core, Xbox Game Pass for Console, PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate) and its approach to the subgenre for fear of spoilers, just know that it contains one of gaming’s all-time best body horror reveals – a feat of grotesque imagination, incredible animation, and wondrous storytelling. You’ve never seen an ending quite like this, I assure you. – Joe Skrebels
Psychological
While there are many levels of horror that tap into the paranormal and make-believe, perhaps none can be as frightening as those that come from within your own mind.
Darkest Dungeon(available with Xbox Game Pass for Console and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate) utilizes this idea brilliantly in the form of “Afflictions” that can impact your party members ability to function at their highest level. After all, wouldn’t you be impacted by watching your friends get torn to shreds, or feel some effects after venturing through damp, dark dungeons while battling hunger? If these stresses are not adequately treated in time, it may not only spell doom for your party member, but your entire adventure itself. – Mike Nelson
Cyberhorror
So much of horror draws on the supernatural, but Cyberhorror’s fear comes from reimagining the tools that help us everyday, usually in a sci-fi context. When technology becomes the villain, you can’t trust anything but your own eyes. Signalis (available with Xbox Game Pass for Console, PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate) is a perfect example – a retro-inspired survival horror that sets up an entire sci-fi universe, but uses it to tell a very human, very frightening tale. Entering an abandoned research facility, you’ll find that technology has horribly warped the androids that once filled it – but will it do the same to you?
SOMA (available with Xbox Game Pass for Console, PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate) comes with a similar set-up, but a very different execution. In this haunting tale of intertwining human and AI consciousnesses (and the blurry lines between the two), you’ll need to survive physical and mental horrors alike to discover the secrets of the mysterious PATHOS-II base. – Joe Skrebels
Vampires
If there’s one monster that stands the trials of time – both figuratively and literally – it’s the not-so-humble vampire. Often decadent, sometimes violent and never boring, these elegant creatures of the night have kept us endlessly enthralled, and boy do they make excellent video game additions. Here’s a couple of games to sate your thirst.
In the titular setting of Redfall (available with Xbox Game Pass for Console, PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate), vampires do not do things by halves. A legion of the creatures have blocked out the sun, and it is up to you to take them down and reclaim the town, by any means necessary. With its blend of stylish settings, moreish combat and arsenal of cool weaponry, this first-person, co-op shooter will have you up all night brawling with the blood suckers. – Danielle Partis
Demons
There are a lot of spooky games that place you in the depths of a nightmare with no way out, but Doomasks, what if *you* were the nightmare to an unrelenting army of Demons? Armed to the teeth with big guns and bigger tunes, this seminal first-person shooter sets you off on a quest to blitz through as many abominations as you can, and it always feels incredible to return to. After all, the best way to deal with your demons is to take them down with unreasonable velocity.
With Game Pass, vengeance can be served in a number of ways – from the original 1993 Doom, to Doom II, Doom 64, and Doom 3(all available with Xbox Game Pass for Console, PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate), all the way up to the devilishly excellent (and extremely gory) 2016 reboot of Doom (available with Xbox Game Pass for Console and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate) and its incredible sequel,Doom Eternal (available with Xbox Game Pass Core, Xbox Game Pass for Console, and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate). – Danielle Partis
Gothic
Gothic horror is often defined as much by what you can’t see, or comprehend. The Amnesia series has built itself on some of those principles, and earned a reputation as one of the most frightening gaming series of all time in the result. With Game Pass, you’re spoiled for choice on how to freak yourself out here – Amnesia: Collection(available with Xbox Game Pass for Console, and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate),Amnesia: RebirthandAmnesia: The Bunker(both available with Xbox Game Pass for Console, PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate) are all available for a true marathon of scares – maybe just give yourself a break between games…
If you want something a little less intense, The Last Case of Benedict Fox (available with Xbox Game Pass for Console, PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate) bakes Lovecraftian vibes into its detective-infused Metroidvania set-up – investigate a murder and dive deep into the mystery (and other people’s nightmares) as you aim to crack the case. – Joe Skrebels
And if all of that wasn’t enough, make sure to check out our Shocktober sale, with deals on horror games across both console and PC. The sale ends on October 31, so make sure to check it out soon!

Thanks to the hard work of Xbox engineers, we are happy to announce the following fixes have been implemented for this build:
My Games & Apps
Fixed an issue where some users were unable to install games as expected from the game management page.
System
Various stability and performance fixes.
Known Issues
We understand some issues have been listed in previous Xbox Insider Release Notes. These items aren’t being ignored, but it will take Xbox engineers more time to find a solution.
Audio
We have received reports of users experiencing intermittent issues with audio across the dashboard, games, and apps. If you have experienced issues, be sure you have the latest firmware updates for your TV and other equipment. If you’re unsure, you may need to contact the manufacturer for assistance.
Note: If you continue to experience issues after applying the latest firmware updates, please submit feedback via Report a Problem immediately with the “Reproduce with advanced diagnostics” option, then select the category “Console experiences” and “Console Audio Output Issues”. Be sure to include as much information as possible:
When did the issue start?
Did you lose audio just in the game/app or system audio as well?
Does changing the audio format resolve the issue? If yes, what was the format before and after?
Does rebooting resolve the issue?
What does your setup include? Equipment, layout, etc.
And any additional information you can provide to reproduce the problem.
Keyboard Button Mapping for Xbox Controllers
If you change your keyboard language settings while the Xbox Accessories app is open, the change will be reflected after quitting the app or rebooting your console.
Networking
We are investigating reports of an issue where the console may not connect to their network as expected on boot. If you experience this, be sure to report the issue via Report a Problem as soon as you’re able.
Workaround: Wait a minute for the connection to establish. If your console still hasn’t connected, restart your Xbox from the Power Center by holding the Xbox button > Restart console > Restart.
Make sure to use Report a problem to keep us informed of your issue. We may not be able to respond to everyone, but the data we’ll gather is crucial to finding a resolution.

Have you ever needed to send a text that you wished you could’ve had some help with? In FixyText, coming soon to The Jackbox Party Pack 10, every game is an opportunity to work together to send a message that’s as fun to write as it is to read.
In FixyText, players are given a text to which they need to respond. These texts come from one of four different categories: Flirty, Serious Business, Friends and Family, or Unknown Number. You and your friends have to work together to respond to your text… but each of you may have their own agenda. Oh, and did we mention that there’s no delete key?
After you generate your hilariously incoherent messages, players get to vote on their favorite words and phrases in each text. Before you know it, the player with the most points will be crowned the best texter, and the player with the least points will be banned from texting forever. (We’re kidding. Or are we?)
Behind the Scenes of FixyText
FixyText was inspired by a question posed by Editorial Lead Liz Anderson, who asked, “What if a group of friends could answer your risky texts for you by jamming together in a single text box? And also, what if there was no delete key?!” Game Director Alina Constantin has further stated that the game was inspired by the universal feeling of pressing send on an important message, looking back at what you wrote, and wanting to throw your phone at the wall.
In order to create the world of FixyText, the team at Jackbox first needed to create a brand-new mechanism for recording real-time typing updates that could sync up all players’ contributions simultaneously and accurately. They then sought to balance all the text-based chaos with lo-fi bops, minimal print graphics, and ASCII characters. The result? A minimalistic blank canvas that lets your writing be the star of the show.
The FixyText team also designed the game in order to let every player shine. For example, players are offered optional suggested agendas (such as “write like you’re a ship’s captain”) that they can use for inspiration and added hilarity. What’s more, the FixyText team scripted a system of call-outs where game prompts are drafted to include player names and favorited words from earlier rounds. That means that every FixyText game spins inside jokes out of your very own words!
The World of FixyText
Because the gameplay of FixyText is so deeply rooted in the world of texting culture and online communication, the team opted for a low-tech audio-visual backdrop. Bruno Rodriguez’s minimalist art was inspired by risograph printing, 1950’s Italian typewriter manuals, ASCII art and the Teenage Engineering design studio, while musician Kelly Shuda drew inspiration from remixing 80s drum machines, keyboard sounds, and funky hip-hop vibes for their groovy beats.
The team hopes that FixyText becomes a game that people keep coming back to for its hare-brained hive mind effect as well as its orchestrated chaos and zany humor. Game Director Alina Constantin states:
“We hope it’s the kind of game that connects players and gives space for different kinds of joyful creativity, a place where people can feel both seen and inspired to be funny in their own way. We’re excited to see it help folks create words or phrases together that they take with them to other party games and parts of their life, long after the game is done.”
Don’t forget to check out FixyText on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S as part of The Jackbox Party Pack 10 along with four other brand-new games: Tee K.O. 2, Hypnotorious, Dodo Re Mi and Timejinx! Brand new in 2023 is the addition of ‘Race Replay’ – a game mode which offers single race scenarios based on data and conditions from the real-life 2023 FIA Formula One World Championship. Start from the grid and improve on the team’s results in ‘Starting Grid’, or rewrite some of the season’s key strategy calls in ‘Race Moments’ as you answer a selection of 2023’s ‘what ifs’. New Race Replay scenarios are added after every race in the 2023 season, so you’ll regularly have new content as we accelerate towards the glamorous neon lights of Las Vegas and the season finale in Abu Dhabi.
For those seeking the ultimate challenge, the returning and improved career mode will see you taking responsibility for every area of your team. At HQ your leadership and direction will cover all bases, from designing and researching parts, recruiting and developing drivers and staff, even down to defining the training schedule of your pit crew. On-track, you’ll see all the action unfold in a stunning broadcast-like experience, with the new visor cam bringing you even closer to every thrilling moment. Relaying commands to your drivers via real team radio messages, your strategizing will be put to the test as you aim to maximize your results, reacting to pit-stop mistakes, safety cars, and weather changes.
Before you take your seat on the pit wall, we’ve put together a dossier of essential reading for Team Principals to give you the edge over your rivals.
Designing the Ultimate Upgrade
Whilst a star-studded driver line-up might get you moving up the grid order, crucial to your success across the season is the development of new car parts. When designing these, there are a few considerations you’ll want to account for – including managing your Aerodynamic Testing Restriction (ATR) budget. In Formula 1, teams are allocated a limited number of hours they can spend testing their aerodynamic parts in the Wind Tunnel or with Computational Fluid Dynamics, with those towards the back of the field being allocated more to help them close the gap.
ATR allocation will reset at set times throughout the season, and any unused time when this happens will be lost, so top Principals will utilize of all these hours before their allocation resets. Making the most of this testing will allow you to improve your car’s pace against your competitors and increase the Expertise of your team, allowing you to create even better parts in future.
Building Your Dream Team
Crucial to success in F1 is an ability to always look ahead and plan for the next challenge. In F1 Manager 2023, you’ll invest your budgets into developing your car, your facilities, and your people. Staffing your team with the best upcoming talent can often give you an edge when you might have a disadvantage on the balance sheet.
When recruiting, consider the impact of changing out a driver or staff member during their contract. There will often be a costly fee for cutting short their time with the team, and instead you might look to offer your new recruit a position starting in the following season. Each driver and key staff member can develop their skills based on your preference, so identifying areas of weakness and considering whether to take the time to train, or whether to opt for an immediate change, will likely be influenced by your own board objectives.
Practice Makes Perfect
Although you’re able to simulate each of the three practice sessions during an F1 race weekend, you can gain an edge on your rivals by managing these yourself and responding to each of your drivers’ feedback. When each car is on track, drivers will build up their track familiarity (how well they know how their car handles on the circuit this year) as well as gathering feedback on the individual set-up of the car. Once a driver’s accrued five pieces of feedback covering each major area of the car (indicated by a number out of 5 next to a speech bubble in the driver control panel), it’s best to bring them back into the pitlane to see how you need to adjust.
It might be tempting to put on a fresh set of soft tires in every stint to finish top of the table in practice, remember that you won’t get any points for that! Tire usage is rolled over to each session, with an allocation being returned to Pirelli after every session on track. You’ll need to use a minimum of two compounds during a dry race, so remember that sometimes it can be beneficial to save a set of tires to give yourself the edge when it really counts.
Tire-ing Work and Crucial Race Strategy
Race strategy is king on track, and even an underperforming car can deliver exceptional results in the right circumstances. Before the race begins, make sure to take a moment to assign a strategy for each driver. Keep an eye on the ‘estimated race time’ to weigh up your options, as well as the weather forecast for any downpours which might create an opportunity.
During the race, it can be easy to give your drivers’ the freedom to push as hard as they possibly can, but a good Team Principal knows when to push and when to hold some pace in reserve. When you ask your drivers to increase their pace, you’ll be increasing their tire wear and their usage of fuel and stored ERS (Energy Recovery System) charge.
As tire life decreases, so too will your drivers’ ability to consistently improve their lap-times.Remember to consider the tire temperatures, which will fluctuate throughout the race depending on how hard your driver is pushing, as well as the track conditions. When the tire drops below 30% of its’ remaining life, expect to see a significant drop in your pace and an increased risk of a costly puncture.
