How Composer Inon Zur Created the Soul of Starfield in Just Six Musical Notes

How Composer Inon Zur Created the Soul of Starfield in Just Six Musical Notes

Inon Zur Starfield Hero

I think the biggest compliment I can give to the music of Starfield is that, as I write the game’s title, the theme tune always plays in my head. More specifically, the motif – duh-dah, duh-daah, duh-duuuuh – if you’ve played it, or even watched a trailer, you know the one. Those six notes are woven around the very bones of the game, from its title screen to its level-up alerts and, after tens of hours, begin to feel more like its beating, hopeful heart than mere sonic set dressing.

As it turns out, in an alternate timeline, we may never have heard them. “Today, we can admit that, in the first two years – two years! – of the development, we actually had a different theme.”

Composer Inon Zur – the award-winning architect of Starfield’s score, long-time Bethesda collaborator, and composer of over a hundred soundtracks across gaming, film, and TV – drops this reveal early on. I’d mistakenly assumed that those six notes formed the start of all his work on the game, but the reality was more complex – and speak to how seriously he and Bethesda Game Studios take the job of finding a musical identity for their games.

“Todd Howard pretty much signed off on [the original theme]. He liked it – and then two years later, Todd said, ‘You know, I’m listening to it again and again and again, and I like it, but I don’t love it.’ That was pretty much the end of that theme. So I just started a new theme, and this is what you hear now.”

There’s no hint of regret in the way Zur talks about that shift – in fact he seems energized by it. After years of working with Bethesda, Zur knows that finding the exact right tone is key for both him and the studio:

“We believe that every game needs to have its own DNA. This is a philosophy that Todd Howard is always focusing on; it’s so important for him to really hammer the DNA of the game. So it’s the appearance, it’s the story, and it is the music.

“So, what we called that musical signature, when you hear it, [we want you to] know it’s Starfield. Like, Star Wars: [sings the Star Wars refrain] – you hear it, you know it’s Star Wars. And I think Bethesda really did this very, very well in the way they incorporated the music inside the game. So there is no mistake that this is the signature of Starfield.

So, in creating that musical signature, where did Zur and Bethesda land on the DNA of Starfield? What sparked his creative imagination?

“So there are three elements that came to mind right away when I thought about Starfield. Imagine that you are being thrown into space. So first, you have this ‘awe’ feeling: it’s so big, it’s so vast, it’s incomprehensible. Then comes the fear: the fear of the unknown, the fear of everything that could happen in this whole new place. And then with it comes the excitement: the opportunity to discover new worlds, and to experience something that people have never really experienced before.

“So take these three elements – the awe, the fear, the excitement – and listen to the music of Starfield, and I think you could get that. There’s always the mystery, there’s always the insecurity, the feeling of, ‘we are not safe, we are in an uncharted territory’, but then there’s always the excitement and positive attitude: ‘Yes, but we will go, we will experience it, and there are new opportunities out there.’”

That idea of positivity in the music of a sci-fi game feels like the biggest outlier to me – science fiction so often puts fear or conflict into the forefront of your experience, but Zur’s score resists solely taking that path. There’s a hopefulness to his work here that reflects the game’s own outlook.

In part, that’s down to how he used instrumentation – sci-fi, as you’d expect, lends itself well to electronic music, but much of Starfield’s backing feels more classical in tone, harking back to the likes of Star Trek’s themes, and their own, more joyful takes on the future. Zur’s challenge here was in combining the two sides – classical and electronic – to create something that feels like a new whole.

“I think that the more classical tone is the more dominant one in our [score]. However, if you listen to the whole score, there are many areas where electronic and sound design elements are 50, sometimes 60, or even 70% of the score. The score is vast and there are many cues that are actually not what we call classical at all. I think the interesting thing is the combination that we created.

“At many points, you cannot really put your finger on what is sound design, what is electronic, and what is orchestral, because everything really is intertwined. Sometimes there is a more traditional accompaniment, or orchestral background, but then the instrument that carries the melodies is actually synth. And sometimes it’s the other way around; there’s more ‘sound design-ish’ elements, but the [main] instrument is classical.”

The result is a score that can slide from mood to mood, style to style, seamlessly – helped by the fact that it’s enormous, surpassing the five-hour mark. Of course, five hours of music is still a fair bit less than the hundreds of hours some players will put into a game like Starfield, meaning Zur’s other challenge was in crafting a score that can keep hitting its key themes without feeling overly repetitive.

“It’s about finding this balance between, ‘How can I create something new, but make it feel like part of the same family?’ There are many ways to go about it: you could change the timbre, you could change the tempo, you could create variations that are different enough, but still remind the player, ‘Oh, yeah, this reminds me of the theme’, but it’s not the theme, it’s something different.

“It’s like painting. If you add a little bit more grey or black, automatically, the painting feels more gloomy. And there’s a way to do it in music. It’s almost like drawing the picture and fine-tuning the colours and themes. In this way, you create environments that are different enough, on one hand, but then still part of the same DNA.”

Which leads us back to those core six notes – notes I must have heard hundreds of times in my time with Starfield, but played over so many different moments, and earned a different meaning by doing so. I tell Zur that when I think about those notes, I think of Starfield, and when I think about Starfield, I think about those notes. Was that the intention?

“That’s actually the best thing a composer can hear. It’s not only about the composition, it’s also about how it’s being implemented. But really, if a composer hears that, that means that he or she did a good job… I think that a lot of props need to be given to Bethesda, to the Audio Director, Mark Lambert, and Todd Howard, who oversaw everything. They made sure that the music really feels like it is growing out of the game.”

“This is so important, because there are very few movies or games that do that. Like Halo, for example: you think about the game and you hear the music. And I think that Bethesda’s games really do this well too. Music is such an important part – when you think about The Elder Scrolls or Fallout, you automatically hear the themes. It’s also part of the way Bethesda is playing those themes – they’re repeating the theme a lot, and they’re making sure that the theme works so well, inside the game, that it becomes an inseparable part of it.”

Starfield’s music truly is inseparable from the game, powering and being powered by the rest of the game’s many interlocking parts. Zur tells me that, for him, “the perfect music for a game is music that you feel, you don’t hear” – it’s hard to visualize, until I think of that motif, those six short notes. I heard them at first, but I feel them now.

Celebrate 10 Years of Killer Instinct With The New Anniversary Edition

Ten years ago, on November 22, 2013, the team at Xbox Game Studios Publishing released an all-new Killer Instinct for Xbox One and Windows PC. Since then, Killer Instinct has boasted a passionate, global community that has regularly featured at tournaments.

Earlier this year, at Evo 2023, we announced a special update to mark Killer Instinct’s 10th anniversary. Well, with the hard work of our partners at Iron Galaxy Studios, that update is finally here – and we’re officially calling it Killer Instinct Anniversary Edition. The Anniversary Edition includes some changes that we’re hoping will welcome players old and new!

Firstly, a new color scheme for our logo, theme, and remastered in-game user interface. (It’s a nod to Killer Instinct Gold, which released on the Nintendo 64 in 1996!)

Secondly, as we announced on Iron Galaxy’s developer stream last week, we’ve made significant balance updates to 19 of the 29 fighters. These updates, which range from minor bug fixes to major tuning adjustments, all came from extensive feedback from our community and pro tournament players. This rebalancing will create an entirely new meta for fighting gamers to explore – and we couldn’t be more excited to see what the players will do with it!

Another important update is to matchmaking, which has now been fully updated to PlayFab services after initial migrations this past May.

We’ve also made some changes to game rendering, including updating from Dx11 to Dx12 on Xbox consoles to help optimize graphics for Series X|S consoles. Xbox Series X consoles now display Killer Instinct in resolutions up to 4K at 60FPS, while Series S consoles reach up to 1440p at 60FPS. The combined updated theme and optimized graphics elevate the Killer Instinct experience players know and love for modern consoles and PCs.

This update also streamlines the many previous editions into two versions of Killer Instinct:

  • The free to play version of Killer Instinct – now available on Steam for the first time! – includes all the previously mentioned updates. This version features one free weekly rotating Fighter and Single-Player, Local, and Ranked Modes, to ensure new players can experience all that Killer Instinct has to offer.
  • The Killer Instinct Anniversary Edition will replace all paid versions of Killer Instinct, such as the Definitive Edition… and the good news is that anyone who has bought Premium content for the previous versions of Killer Instinct (Editions, Fighters, etc.) will get upgraded to the Anniversary Edition for free! Steam users will also receive, for the first time ever, the Permanent VIP Double XP Booster, and specialty colors for Gargos, Killer Instinct’s main boss.

For more information on what to expect from Killer Instinct Anniversary Edition, you can visit our News section on the Killer Instinct website.

We’re looking forward to hearing feedback from the Killer Instinct community! We would love it if you tag your social media posts with #PlayKI, so we can track all your feedback. On behalf of everyone who’s ever worked on Killer Instinct, thank you for ten amazing years!

Worldless: Making a Game That Won’t Allow You To Die

Worldless is a game driven by its unique approach to combat and exploration – and part of that unique nature is that it makes it impossible to die at any point – but without losing a sense of challenge throughout. Let me explain how we achieved that.

The combat of Worldless is a complex merge of the classic turn-based format with a high emphasis on action systems, pattern recognition and attack variety. A system with this much diversity and complexity requires constant engagement between the player and the game mechanics, and it can be hard to get to grips with it all – but once that penny drops, and all the systems click together it can lead to some extremely satisfying results. To encourage the player to continue trying, gel with the systems, and to not give up due to consistent “deaths” or “game overs” we opted to provide the player with what we feel is a better, less expected solution.

Worldless Screenshot

Things start simple, allowing the player to get familiar with the basics – but later, the game demands these basics are properly executed in unison to take down the more advanced enemies. We wanted to properly reward players, and we have done this by allowing every enemy to be “absorbed”. Achieving an absorption provides players with skill points to further develop their abilities in Worldless, but we didn’t want things to be frustrating when it comes to unlocking new abilities. Therefore, even if you defeat an enemy without absorbing them by mistake, they can be instantly refought to absorb their powers in a fresh encounter. Nothing is missable in the game.

At the same time, most of the encounters offer some level of complexity on how to correctly execute them to gain a new skill, and optional and later bosses can be very challenging. Taking that into account, we wanted to avoid frustration, and so if you lose an encounter, you are simply pushed back and can re-enter the fight seamlessly. This system allowed us to go all-out designing optional content with high levels of complexity, knowing that the player will keep learning the more they try, and eventually evolve in a way where a seemingly hard enemy encounter becomes a walk in the park.

Worldless Screenshot

We took the same approach with the exploration of Worldless. Rather than fall into a hazard and be faced with a game over screen, we simply reset the player to their last “safe” position. At first, the platforming is as simple as a horizontal jump but slowly, as the game ramps up, we added in various hazards, dash resets, and swinging points. We felt it’d be really infuriating for the player to “fail” on a platforming segment and be greeted with a loading screen or a “game over” so, much like our combat system, we reset the player and allow them to try again almost instantly. The whole idea of having no “game over” truly allowed us to be flexible in our choices and I think that’s evident in how crazy we can get with the combat encounters.

With Worldless being built upon pattern recognition, a good variety in enemy design was necessary to keep each encounter feeling fresh and challenging and with that came needs for various combat actions and mechanics. All the actions in Worldless have a purpose or a use-case and are heavily balanced to make their correct use very significant.

Worldless Screenshot

Some actions deal more damage and can open enemies to a vulnerable state, and others deal high amounts of absorption damage to obtain new skill points. The latter are most useful once the enemy is put in this vulnerable state. This is accomplished by breaking a series of “blocks” represented with icons of specific types of damage. The main combat loop is to identify these “blocks”, break them by using the proper high damage actions, and then go all out using the attacks with highest absorption damage.

But then again, this is turn-based, so when your offensive window ends, it is the enemies’ chance to obstruct your progress in the fight. Taking damage will deplete the absorption bar, and enemies can attack in multiple ways, making the moment very intense and highly rewarding good reactions and pattern recognition.

Worldless Screenshot

To make the defensive turn as exciting as possible, there are ways to even gain buffs for your next offense – by timing your inputs perfectly, you can perform “perfect guards” that can interrupt enemy actions with counterattacks and much more. This makes the defensive turn an active one,, not just a case of trying not to get defeated.

Worldless’ combat system is a unique one. It takes some adaptation, but the game will not penalise you for failure and in fact does the contrary – it treats failure as a growing process. By allowing you to instantly retry, you’ll see the benefits of getting familiar not only with the basic mechanics, but the endless possible combinations of later game skills. The skill ceiling is very high, and when reached, it feels amazing.

Worldless is out now, playable on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.

Besides the usual risk/reward that each perk has, most of the perks are synergetic, meaning you can have a companion drone and then collect a multiplier projectile perk, and in addition to your own shots, your companion drone’s shots will be multiplied as well.

Tips to Help you Succeed

  • The Dash is your best friend, besides the slight speed boost, it also makes you invincible for a short time.
  • Only a fool doesn’t pick up perks that start with “The Fool’s”.
  • Some waves are infinite, you must identify the motherships to end them, they are usually stationary on the right side of the screen.
  • Getting hit by an enemy spaceship is much worse than getting hit by one of its projectiles.
  • The more times you visit the merchant in a run, the better weapons he has for you.
  • In endless mode, you can only encounter the bosses that you have defeated in classic mode.
  • After defeating the Mirror boss, you unlock Lost Mode, which unlocks more difficult enemies and double-boss battles.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III Multiplayer – The Community’s Response So Far and Updates Since Beta

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III Multiplayer has been out in the world for a couple weeks, and we are thrilled to see that it has come with a great sentiment from the Call of Duty community, who have responded particularly well to the more fluid movement system and the modernized return of the 16 fan-favorite maps from Modern Warfare 2 (2009).

Back on October 5, at the Call of Duty: Next broadcast, Sledgehammer Games developers took the stage to share all the innovations and details about what players could expect from Multiplayer at launch.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer Screenshot

Shortly after, the Beta kicked off and allowed players to get hands on experience with MP, which provided the opportunity for them to give feedback on the mode before its official launch on November 10. Fast forward to now, and Xbox players around the globe have been jumping into Modern Warfare III to experience this fan-favorite mode for themselves.

First and foremost, the great reaction to Modern Warfare III MP has been something Sledgehammer Games has been proud to see. As Zach Hodson, Design Director at the Studio puts it, “We’re incredibly inspired from the reactions so far. The positivity makes the effort worth it, and we use the negatives as motivation to get solid fixes and improvements out as fast as we can. Keep the feedback coming!”

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer Screenshot

On the feedback front, between Beta and launch, the studio has taken several key learnings to make some of the adjustments and improvements that you’ve already seen at launch. So far, spawns have been one of the most notable adjustments. From Zach Hodson: “Spawns were a big one. We heard from players that the spawns lacked directionality and it was making it impossible to know which direction the fights would be coming from. In between Beta and Launch our QA, Analysts, Designers, and Engineers worked together on all aspects of spawns to improve on the issues players were seeing. We think the work really paid off, but there are still more improvements coming.”

From an art direction standpoint, the Beta confirmed a lot of the hopes from the Sledgehammer team with the direction they had taken in modernizing these classic maps. From Matt Abbott, Art Director at the studio: “The Beta gave us so much data to trust our instincts and deliver to the players what we wanted to see as fans of Call of Duty.  We have to walk a fine line of balancing realism, grittiness, and natural palettes.  The perception of saturated colors can be polarizing because it potentially deprives a level of grittiness that has come to define Modern Warfare.  In the Beta, it became clear that we didn’t need to dial back our instincts and we could let the natural, physically based materials shine in their full glory while maintaining the realism the franchise is known for.”

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer Screenshot

There were a few adjustments made, though: “After the Beta, we made a subtle shift that pushed saturation and contrast to take full advantage of Xbox Series X, HDR, and modern monitors/TVs.  Because of the data from the Beta, we were able to make adjustments that made maps not only look better but play better as well.  The idea that people are stopping to smell the roses and look at all the care, tuning, and polishing that goes into the visuals of a Call of Duty game is something that warms a developer’s heart.”

Other fan favorite updates that have come with Modern Warfare III Multiplayer include slide and reload canceling, updates to recoil, and new ways to set your loadout. While loadouts can be entirely subjective, Hodson recommends “playing around with the collapsed-stockless MCW with Stalker Boots and seeing how aggressively you can build it, while still keeping its accuracy.” Beyond that, there are many opportunities to create the loadout that works best for your playstyle, so if you haven’t yet, be sure to jump in and try it out for yourself.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer Screenshot

Overall, Modern Warfare III Multiplayer has delivered an intense, fluid, and fun player experience. We look forward to seeing how the game continues to evolve based on community feedback. We can’t wait to see you in the lobbies!

Get Ready for a Fight with the For Honor Crossover in Dying Light 2 Stay Human

The year might be coming to a close, but that doesn’t mean we can’t fit one more crossover into Dying Light 2 Stay Human before we see 2023 out. As we mentioned in our Sneak Peek, our last crossover event of the year will be with For Honor. So, Pilgrims, it’s time to sharpen your longswords, axes and katanas, because to fight off these noble warriors, you’re gonna need every advantage you can get!

Ubisoft’s medieval-inspired brawler pits some of the Middle Ages’ toughest factions against each other in up to 4v4 combat and seemed like a natural collaboration for us. First, we’re both about action, with a little sprinkling of dismemberment and decapitation. Secondly, and most importantly, we both have diehard communities who love to be creative when it comes to combat. So, get ready to practice your warcry for when you head into battle. And if Japanese, Icelandic or Latin isn’t one of your spoken tongues, don’t worry, we’ll forgive the pronunciation. It’s time to scream “Jinjyo ni shoubu” (or “Let’s have an honorable showdown”) as we head into talking about the event!

Those familiar with the lore of For Honor will know that these factions are entangled in a bitter war while fighting for supremacy of the map. With three of the game’s factions hearing that the city of Villedor would provide them a tactical advantage over their foes, they believed that the last bastion of humanity would see them be ultimately victorious. These warriors have seen thousands of battlefields, but nothing could prepare them for what lay ahead: hordes of zombies and one hard-to-kill hero, you!

As these warriors invade The City, you’ll see a cloud of fog appear from which they will emerge. These warriors can be friendly and will attack zombies or rival factions, but that’s the minority; most of them will see you as just another body to add to their tally. Not only will you need to put up a fight to survive, you’ll be rewarded for killing the Wardens, Kensei and Berserkers that find themselves in Villedor. Each of these factions will have different levels of attacking threat, HP and damage, so each will pose a different challenge. And make sure to watch out for their taunts as they will recover vital HP that might put you on the backfoot!

For defeating 15 For Honor warriors in duels, you’ll earn the legendary Berserker’s Hand Axe (and blueprint), which heals you when you decapitate an enemy and inflicts a bleeding effect on those who are caught by the blade. Additionally, the ultimate reward will require you to personally kill a total of 30 For Honor warriors; for doing so, you’ll get the Berserker outfit and paraglider. And finally, for banding together as a community of warriors and killing 5,000,000 of these foes, everyone will get the Warlord’s Shield Charm, which will allow you perform actions without consuming stamina immediately after decapitating an enemy.

For those who complete all the goals, they will earn everything that’s available in the Berserker Bundle for absolutely free. However, if you wish to represent another faction, we have prepared two special bundles: the Kensei Bundle and the Warden Bundle. Both feature a unique appearance, deadly weapon (with blueprint), charm and paraglider, so make sure to check them out in the in-game store, accessible via the main menu!

So, Pilgrims, it’s time to train your parrying skills, swordsmanship and creative combat ideas as you’ll be getting up close and personal with these fierce warriors. And one last bit of advice: “Nulla misericordia!”

Dying Light 2 Stay Human is available for purchase on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.

It’s been 20 years since the events of the original game. The virus won, and humanity is slowly dying. You play as Aiden Caldwell, a wandering Pilgrim who delivers goods, brings news, and connects the few remaining survivor settlements in barren lands devastated by the zombie virus. However, your true goal is to find your little sister Mia, who you left behind as a kid to escape Dr. Waltz’s torturous experiments. Haunted by the past, you eventually make the decision to confront it when you learn that Mia may still be alive in Villedor — the last city standing on Earth.

You quickly find yourself in a settlement torn by conflict. You’ll need to engage in creative and gory combat, so hone your skills to defeat hordes of zombies and make allies. Roam the city, free run across Villedor’s buildings and rooftops in search of loot in remote areas, and be wary of the night. With every sunset, monsters take control of the streets.

A WORLD AFTER THE APOCALYPSE
Fifteen years ago, humanity was devastated by the Fall — a catastrophic event that would change the world forever. With the Harran virus spreading around the globe, people quickly found out that all hope for tomorrow is lost. By 2036, only a few settlements remain, and humanity is slowly dying, making way for the new species out there — a horde of relentless zombies.

DAY’S FOR THE LIVING, NIGHT’S FOR THE DEAD
Welcome to Villedor, one of the last bastions of humanity. During the day, survivors still try to have a life here and find a false sense of normalcy. Relationships are formed, dreams are dreamed, and life carries on. On the surface, everything seems… fine. Until sunset, that is. With the last ray of light dying out, other, more dreadful, dwellers of The City crawl out of their gloomy interiors, taking over the streets. If you are not vigilant and stay out too long in the dark, you may never return.

YOU HAVE TO MOVE TO SURVIVE
Not all fights can be won. Sometimes it’s best to run and, thankfully, you have the skills for it. Parkour lets you escape when odds are not in your favor. Jump from rooftop to rooftop, swing across the cityscape, ride ziplines, and much more. Whatever you do, experience a unique sense of freedom as you free run across Villedor’s buildings and rooftops in search of loot or while running away from the dangers of the night.

GET BRUTAL AND BE CREATIVE ABOUT IT
In a world as dangerous as this one, only the strongest survive. Whether you prefer to smash, slice or dismember those who stand in your way, you have to be creative about it to make it through. And who says you need weapons? Utilize the entirety of your parkour moveset to get the jump on your enemies. Learn the ways of combat and parkour to feel the crunch of skulls and slices of flesh as you swing weapons or use your moves to fend off any forms of danger. And let’s not forget that Villedor has weapons that put the most advanced post-apocalyptic armories to shame.

FOUR PILGRIMS ARE BETTER THAN ONE
Surviving in Villedor is easier with friends. Team up with up to 3 other players and increase your chances out there. Unravel the story together, take on Pilgrim Outpost challenges, or simply wreak havoc on the city streets.

Pre-orders for Bombastic On-Rails Arcade Shooter Railbreak Begin Today

  • Accessible on-rails arcade fun just in time for the holidays
  • Blast countless zombie hordes, either alone or with a friend
  • Preorder Railbreak today

Hello Survivors! I’m Evan Wolbach, co-founder of Dead Drop Studios. We’re excited to share explosive details about our upcoming on-rails arcade shooter, Railbreak!  This is our first ever game built in Unreal Engine 5, and it’s taking aim at Xbox Series X|S just in time for the Holidays. Get ready for zombie-blasting carnage that’s as gorgeous as it is frenzied.

An Arcade Shooter for the Modern Age

Although we’re traditionally known for Outbreak, our survival horror thriller series, Railbreak marks our first entry in the under-represented on-rails arcade shooter genre. We’re huge fans of classic arcade games like The House of the Dead and Time Crisis, and Railbreak is built to channel the spirit of those titles and infuse it with modern technology and new, unexpected twists.

Unreal Engine 5 Delivers the Visual Flair and Allows for Shrapnel-Spewing New Gameplay Twists

As this is our first game utilizing Unreal Engine 5, the graphical leap over our previous titles is astronomical. Featuring next-generation garnishes like ray tracing, lumen, and volumetric lighting, Railbreak is a visual feast for the eyes; that is, if you have time to appreciate it while mowing down hordes of zombies! The new tools at our disposal also allow for advances in gameplay; our dismemberment physics allow players to strategically minimize zombie attacks, and the improvements in processing power also massively scale up the enemy count, making this game more frenetic than anything we’ve made before.

RB zombie fight

Spread the Lead Alone or with a Friend in Three Distinct Game Modes

One important similarity to our previous games is support for optional two-player co-op in all modes. You and a friend can play through the very cheesy and fully voiced Story, test your skills in Score Attack complete with rankings, and take on an endless challenge in Onslaught. All modes can be played across a variety of difficulty settings, so regardless of if it’s your first time playing an on-rails shooter or if you’re an arcade veteran, you experience the game the way you want to.

RB diner zombie

Strapped with More Action Than You Can Shake a Boomstick at

Railbreak is jam packed with content: we have seven unique scenarios, tons of zombies and enemy variations, multiple weapons, and a bevy of unlockable characters each with their own loadouts. The game is maximized for replayability; whether you want to try achieving a higher rank on an individual level or you want to relax and pass some time with a friend, Railbreak has the action you crave.

Show the undead swarms you mean business when Railbreak launches for Xbox Series X|S on December 22nd. You can equip yourself for battle early when pre-orders begin on November 17th. Can you rise up to the retro challenge, or will the savage specters bite you to bits?

Grab your controller, select your survivor, and blast your way to safety as the city burns around you in this on-rails survival horror shooter. Oh, and don’t forget to bring a friend for zombie fodder, er, we mean multiplayer experience!

Railbreak melds a classic on-rails arcade experience with the cutting edge Unreal Engine 5. In this prelude to Outbreak: Shades of Horror, you’ll get an opportunity to see the sights and sounds of Cypress Ridge and get chomped on by a zombie or four! Face the city alone, or bring a friend along with optional 2-player co-op supported across the entire game

Featuring a wide cast of survivors each with their own loadouts and traits, you’ll find plenty of replayability in this absurd take of a survival horror game in a survival horror game. A full story mode experience awaits across six scenarios. Bonus modes include Score Attack, and the endless Onslaught Mode that keeps ratcheting up the difficulty until the undead finally seal your fate.
