Two indie megahits combine in Vampire Survivors’ Among Us DLC, out later this month
What happens when the biggest indie game of 2020 meets the biggest indie game of 2022? We’ll find out soon enough, as Among Us is headed to Vampire Survivors in a piece of DLC titled Emergency Meeting.
Welcome to Elk, Ynglet and Dead Pets Unleashed devs “no longer exist” as whole team laid off after bankruptcy
In a reminder that 2023 continues to be a rotten ol’ year for the people making games, no matter what Geoff Keighley and Gonzo might tell (or not tell) you, indie devs Triple Topping Games have laid off the entire studio’s staff after declaring bankruptcy.
Alone in the Dark reboot delayed again, will now land in March so devs “avoid any potential crunch”
The reboot of survival-horror series Alone in the Dark has seen a second delay, with its release date now landing toward the end of next March. Publishers THQ Nordic ascribed the roughly two-month slip to their efforts in avoiding development crunch.
An “embarrassing indictment”: developers decry last nights The Game Awards ceremony
Last night, Geoff Keighley revealed dozens of trailers for upcoming video games, and interviewed some of his favourite celebrites and best palss from the games industry on stage. He also happened to hand out some awards to game developers. At his awards show. Titled The Game Awards.
Good games from 2023 that didn’t quite make my GOTY list #3: Roto Force
Okay, okay, I know the last two of these have only been fairly lukewarm interpretations of what I’d normally consider ‘good’, but listen, this is the real deal folks. Roto Force is excellent, and comes with a hearty recommendation for both twin-stick shmuppers and, you know, cool people in general. It’s also an excellent Steam Deck game.
We don’t have to be polite about The Game Awards or pretend it actually cares
This morning, in the cold, post-Game Awards light of day, it became apparent to me that, incredible as it seems, some of you out there have taken Geoff Keighley at his word that The Game Awards is something more meaningful than a flashy ad show to make money. I can’t really blame you for being an open-hearted optimist, but must ask: have you never watched The Game Awards before? I have, and this year, despite not having had to stay up until 5am covering it, I’m grumpy enough to point out that we don’t actually have to be nice about the great, clomping shiny trainer of marketing in 2023, the year everyone was laid off.
The Day Before is finally out, and according to its Steam reviews, it absolutely honks
Zombie survival “MMO” The Day Before has brought us one of the weirdest game development sagas of 2023. Developed by Fntastic, the game has been delayed numerous times, briefly disappeared from Steam after a trademark dispute, and was repeatedly accused of being a vapourware scam, accusations Fntastic attempted to rebuff with a gameplay reveal back in February.
The RPS Advent Calendar 2023, December 8th
The eighth door on the 2023 RPS Advent Calendar leads, technically, to Hell, but the good news is that you don’t have to go through it so much as stop anything coming the other way…
Former Rockstar animator reckons it’s “gonna be a long time” before GTA 6 comes to PC
Grand Theft Auto 6‘s first trailer has resulted in an M-class star’s worth of reaction videos from YouTubers across the globe, but one that stands out from the army of gurning thumbnails is the response of Mike York. York is a professional animator who worked at Rockstar for 6 years, designing animations for both Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2. Now he runs his own YouTube channel, York Reacts, and naturally he had some things to say about GTA6’s trailer.
