8 ways Wanderer: The Fragments of Fate reimagines the time-traveling adventure for PS VR2

Buckle up time travelers, as we’re ready to share further exciting details on Wanderer: The Fragments of Fate, coming to PlayStation VR2 in 2024.

8 ways Wanderer: The Fragments of Fate reimagines the time-traveling adventure for PS VR2

The technology that PlayStation VR2 offers, along with the power of PS5, has allowed us to explore some bold and exciting new ideas to truly elevate player presence, create more lifelike interactions and build richer worlds to explore. Let’s dive into these features a bit further.

Stunning new visuals

Wanderer: The Fragments of Fate has had a stunning art makeover. Completely overhauled visuals for PlayStation VR2 creates worlds that are richer and more beautiful, elevating our visuals to new heights. This includes an all-new lighting system and a complete overhaul on all our NPCs, which have been lovingly recreated and crafted to offer more realism and look better than ever.

Full body avatars

World-class full-body avatars allow you to embody characters through time – seeing yourself as these characters for the very first time. We’ve created a state-of-the-art player avatar system that doesn’t just accurately portray hand and head movement, eyes, and eyelids thanks to PS VR2’s new eye-tracking function. We’ve also created an AI system in which your legs respond to the context the player is in and portray the relevant required movement (climbing, hanging, falling, leaning, crouching etc). Player avatars can now have ‘strength’ based on being physics-driven. This is bound to our new ‘physics interaction framework’ and means player avatars can vary in regards to how strong they are when interacting with the virtual world around them.

Not only are we creating more immersion and better-functioning characters, but they’re also visually stunning as we’ve created a bespoke system that leverages the beauty of Epic’s Meta-humans.

Adventure platforming

Our brand new physics-driven platforming takes action adventure to a whole new level, giving players the ability to explore and interact with our worlds in new and creative ways. Swim, jump, crouch, climb, zipline, and swing your way through a variety of rich worlds in true adventure fashion. This system is fully physics driven, with no gimmicky forced transitions or socketing to a ‘rail.’ It’s just you and the world. The freedom this gives allows players to feel a lot more intrepid and adventurous on their journeys.

Next-gen physics-driven world

Powered by Unreal Engine 5 Wanderer: The Fragments of Fate brings an innovative new look at physics. We’ve created a new system that helps simulate ‘real world’ mass and velocity when grabbing items. All of this also includes the player’s avatar and their strength.  This is all made even more real with the advanced use of PS VR2’s adaptive trigger haptics, headset, and controller haptics. We even have a new proximity base head haptics system which we cannot wait to share with you.

All new combat

A whole new combat system has been designed around a new set of weapons, ammo and enemies allowing players to be more creative with how they solve the various combat situations they encounter through time. It’s up to a player how much (or little) action they want to take on offering much more player agency.

Larger more open worlds to explore

The worlds of Wanderer have embraced the changes to player mobility and now offer a lot more freedom to explore larger areas and discover surprises as you venture back through the ages.

New content, levels & improved time persistence

Wanderer: The Fragments of Fate also introduces three exciting new levels within our existing worlds and lots of new content, giving plenty of opportunity for exploration of expansive and rich worlds. Alongside this, we have overhauled persistence between levels giving better continuity when time traveling – creating a seamless experience for when a player leaves a ‘time era’ (world) and returns, things are exactly as they left them, which means objects, action, everything.

New time travel & watch features

Even Samuel (your trusty watch companion) has been given a makeover. With a new UI, storage system, time-traveling upgrade, and an ingenious new feature – the Echo Diviner – allowing you to locate lost items, Samuel is now more valuable than ever.

Wanderer: The Fragments of Fate is richer, more immersive, more beautiful, and full of even more action and adventure to provide a game that is truly reimagined for the next generation of VR. Stay tuned for more info ahead of its release on PS VR2 next year.

First details on Helldivers 2 co-op and combat gameplay

Greetings, future Helldivers. It’s Katherine, Arrowhead’s social media and community manager, back again to bring you new Helldivers 2 gameplay details: a more in-depth look at our cooperative play* and combat.

Gearing up

After your Helldiver defrosts on your ship, you and your squadmates must prepare for a mission by customizing your armor, your weapons, and your stratagems together.

Creating your loadout feels like part of the mission prep: changing your weapon to suit not only your appetite for destruction but the mission and enemy types you might encounter. Your greatest aids as a Helldiver are stratagems: powerful tools that can be summoned with short button combinations. Everything from airstrikes to Hellpods containing bigger, badder weapons to defensive gear and extra supplies are at your fingertips.

When selecting stratagems, it’ll be essential to coordinate with your team to select the best possible load-outs for the enemies and mission type. If you’re going up against armored enemies, like the Terminid Charger, you or a squadmate can equip armor-piercing weapons, like the AT-48 Recoilless Rifle or the AC-8 Autocannon, which feature a teammate-assisted reload to keep battles even more chaotic.

But don’t sleep on those defensive stratagems either. While one Helldiver is handling the heavy fire, another Helldiver can call down a shield generator to protect teammates as the enemies push back. In a four-person team, you’ll be able to select a mix of stratagems and weapons that will lead to a unique victory every time.

Ready for action

Once your Hellpod lands on a planet, you can start calling in support stratagems, which include more powerful weapons, shield generators, and supply backpacks.

Each member of your squad can play according to their own style: some of you will charge into the fight, others will call down a sniper rifle stratagem and maintain a safe distance while picking off the enemies. You can even sneak past encounters if your team moves carefully. You’re all free to decide how you want to spread Managed Democracy: up close and personal, or with tactical oversight.

Of course, once the action really picks up, get used to dying. Not only are the enemy hordes relentless, but you might run into some stray bullets from your fellow Helldivers. Either way, it’s your team’s first priority to use a Reinforce stratagem to call your brand new Helldiver down to the planet to pick up right where you left off. You can even grab the guns your previous corpse left behind.

There’s not only cooperative combat, but you’ll have cooperative objectives to tackle with your team as well. You’ll be able to share locations with each other and move together across the map. You’ll also encounter optional objectives to complete, requiring a small detour with your teammates, and of course, requiring more ammunition. But you’ll be rewarded for your efforts.

That’s it for now, soldier. Get ready to give ‘em hell!

Helldivers 2 launches on PS5 this year.

Naraka: Bladepoint’s new take on battle royale is coming to PS5 on July 13

Hello! My name is Yongcheng, the Lead Producer of Naraka: Bladepoint PS5 version. We have been working hard on what we feel is the best version of Naraka: Bladepoint so far, and we’re really excited to finally bring our mythical, melee-focused martial arts battle royale game to PlayStation 5.

Naraka: Bladepoint’s new take on battle royale is coming to PS5 on July 13

For those of you that aren’t familiar with Naraka: Bladepoint, it’s the ultimate up-to-60-player PVP action combat experience, where players will engage in a unique battle royale experience that focuses on mastering fast-paced melee action in order to survive.

In the world of Naraka, everything begins with the endless war between 2 ancient gods: Sunwing and Moonbane. The Immortal Mask, created as a result of their battle, will grant mighty power to those who possess it. The game focuses on the subsequent war among mortals, including the blind blademaster of Yushan, Viper Ning, the great monk from another land, Tianhai, the Grey Wolf of the grassland, Temulch, and many more. In total, we now have 16 playable heroes, and the roaster keeps expanding. These heroes are all equipped with powerful skills and, as far as we’re concerned, are also some of the best-looking character designs we’ve made. Not only can you destroy your foes with master skills, but also do it in the coolest way.

We also created a vivid and multi-functional battlefield. There are ancient Eastern architectures you can climb and grapple around. Temples and cities, mines, waterfalls, wildflowers, butterflies…all these details in the environment work together and build a world you can literally immerse yourself into.

The core mechanism that makes Naraka so unique is the ‘rock-scissor-paper’ combat system.  When you click L2/R2, you will initiate normal attacks. And when you long-press L2/R2, you will charge a Focus attack which is unable to be disrupted by normal attacks and will cause higher damage.  Finally, we added a special gesture called Counter, which can beat Focus attacks and send your enemy’s weapon flying. But Counter does nothing but get beaten by normal attacks. These three pillars complete the “game theory” of Naraka’s combat. One smart technique is luring your enemy to Counter you, then beat them with Normal attacks.

As long as you pick up this system, you can call yourself a qualified swordsman. But there’s a long way before you become a true master. Over the past two years, our community has developed so many beautiful combos, like the “Katana Grapple Combo,” which combines Katana attacks with a grapple assault.

We optimize the control for the PS5 DualSense controller, allowing users to achieve any combo. We installed an aim-pilot to help players better use their grapples. Whether they plan to aim at their enemy’s body or the ground close by, they can manage it with ease. Another function we included is the auto-turnaround, a commonly used feature for Action games. We also focused on SSD optimization, so PS5 players can enjoy higher frame rates and loading speeds.

Honestly, the most exciting part is that you don’t have to wait too long to experience this all. The game will be officially free-to-play and arrive on PlayStation 5 starting July 13 in North America. Also, for those patient PlayStation fans, we wanted to reward them with a warm welcome gift from the dev team: Everyone on PS5 will receive a Katana skin, a Ryuzan·Frost Reflection, and 2 Immortal Treasures. If you are a PlayStation Plus member, you will also receive more goodies, including 5 more Treasures, a cool exclusive Headwear designed just for PS Plus members, and more.

Rashid soars into Street Fighter 6 on July 24

Prepare for the incoming storm, World Warriors. Rashid of the Turbulent Wind makes his Street Fighter 6 debut in Fighting Ground and the single-player World Tour mode starting on July 24. With a whirlwind of moves that will send him flying through each fight, Rashid leaves all opponents in the dust – unless they decide to Like and Subscribe.

Rashid soars into Street Fighter 6 on July 24

First appearing in Street Fighter V, the charming Rashid returns to the series, searching for a new outlook on life. Having an epiphany, he realizes he wants to find the strongest warriors around the world and record what their meaning of strength looks like. So starts his journey to becoming a vlogger, always carrying around his trusty camera to livestream and capture the spirit of strength.

Meet Rashid in World Tour where your avatar can learn his moves, speak to him about his life, and increase your bond with him through presents and missions. Max out your bond with Rashid to obtain his Outfit 2, which should look familiar to his fans and followers. Take your avatar with Rashid’s new moves to the Battle Hub and see what havoc you can wreak in Avatar Battles.

According to Game Director Takayuki Nakayama, Rashid’s “hair and bangs were a challenge and involved a lot of trial and error to get right. We wanted to emphasize his use of wind and parkour, so we ended up using cloth materials that were thin and fluttering. Since he’s a Footuber, he has a camera attached to the belt that crosses over his chest, and a smartwatch is embedded in his bracelet since he’s a gadget-loving character. Air is added to his sandals to emphasize his lightness and bouncing and running parkour movements. His gloves, sandals, and other parts that are used to attack are decorated with a motif of a hawk’s beak.”

Rashid retains much of his previous move set from Street Fighter V, but the winds of change have blown in a fresh gust of inspiration to play with. Rashid’s trademark ability to soar throughout the stage from all angles is intact, but with even more options to bring about the hurricane.

Nakayama-san provided insight into how Rashid plays in Street Fighter 6:

“His unique fighting style is characterized by parkour and nimble movements while also utilizing whirlwinds/air currents to trifle with his opponents. He has many techniques to attack while moving forward and has a unique Run action that is used from a forward step, giving him plenty of ways to approach his opponents.

His normal moves have a few quirks and are easy to execute, giving him a solid neutral game. In Street Fighter 6, Rashid’s basic ease of handling from Street Fighter V is maintained, while expanding his overall range of movements by increasing the number of acrobatic movements and air currents incorporated into his moves.

For example, Arabian Cyclone is a new special move that can be used on its own where Rashid performs a spinning kick conjuring up a small whirlwind and can also be transitioned into Rolling Assault and Wing Stroke, which were previously available as V-Skills in Street Fighter V. Combos incorporating these moves look great, so we hope you try them out in battle.

As for other additions, Rashid has a feature that allows him to improve his mobility and enhance his moves by creating and using a whirlwind/air current. Rashid’s V-Trigger I from Street Fighter V, where he summons a large advancing whirlwind, is now his Level 2 Super, Ysaar. Like its previous iteration, when some of Rashid’s special moves meet the large whirlwind, their properties change. His Whirlwind Shot also has the ability to create air currents when held down to charge. The OD version of the aforementioned Arabian Cyclone also creates an air current Rashid can ride to victory. Air currents can be utilized to expand his neutral game, strings, and combos, allowing the player’s individuality to shine through.

With these elements, Rashid has become more distinctive as a character, and we hope you will experience the fun of moving around on the screen.”

Rashid also has a new double jump move known as Arabian Skyhigh that will surely keep opponents guessing on where he’ll land from the air. Finally, Rashid can switch sides with Side Flip, which can also be followed up with a Front Flip to take Rashid into the air once again. He wants you to capture his best angles, after all.

Super Rashid Kick is his Level 1 Super, where Rashid offloads a devastating kick while soaring forward and up through the air.

Altair returns as Rashid’s Level 3 Super, where he twirls around and summons a tempest that lifts opponents in the air before he rains down upon them with a monsoon of powerful blows.

Rashid will be unlocked for owners of the Year 1 Character Pass on July 24. By proxy, this also means anyone with the Deluxe or Ultimate Edition. If you’re on the fence, try out Rashid for free for one hour with one Rental Fighter ticket, which can be obtained in the Fighting Pass.

Speaking of the Fighting Pass, the Rashid Arrives Fighting Pass is available now until July 23, featuring items and cosmetics themed around our favorite new Footuber.

The storm alert has now been issued for July 24 when Rashid joins Street Fighter 6. Until then, we’ll see you on the streets. *turns off stream*

And exploring the world of Eden has never felt better thanks to extensive use of the unique vibration features, punctuating every swing and jump with immersive haptic feedback. We’ve also utilized the gyro sensor to provide precision control and collecting pollen rewards you with dynamic vibrations to mark your achievements.

Scorn creeps on to PlayStation 5 later this year

Greetings everyone! I’m Jovan, Technical Artist at Ebb Software. The whole team here found joy in bringing you nightmarish experiences that will fully immerse you into somber tapestries. And today we’re excited to reveal that our first game, Scorn, will come to Playstation 5 later this year.

Scorn creeps on to PlayStation 5 later this year

Many of you here may be new to Scorn, so for those less familiar with the game, you are about to experience a horrific adventure like no other. Trapped and stranded in a strange biomechanical world, you must make your way through a civilization in decay, now inhabited with twisted and grotesque creatures. While you will be able to wield various weapons in the game, Scorn is not a shooter, and each encounter can quickly turn deadly. Ammo and life are scarce, and your wits will often advise you to avoid direct confrontation.  Instead, to progress through this mesmerizing labyrinth, you will have to revive and activate abandoned contraptions, part machine, part flesh, all horror.

We like to compare it to the experience of a nightmare. Most often, nightmares are described as strong subjective experiences that can be intensely distressing and frightening, eliciting emotional responses in dreamers, and causing feelings of fear, anxiety, and terror. Scorn tries to offer these emotions to its players in a very subtle manner through a somber atmosphere and its gloomy corridors.

Immersive power of PS5

As we were developing the game for PlayStation 5, we finally had the opportunity to tap into the potential of the DualSense wireless controller to immerse you even further in this twisted world, extending the synesthetic experience of Scorn. It allows us to deepen the player’s immersion and to let the whole world “breathe” in a new way. Since there is no spoken dialogue in the game, we have put a strong emphasis on environmental storytelling, hence haptics are a great addition to this peculiar audio-visual experience.

The main character in the game interacts with the world mostly by using his hands. Most of these interactions are also painful for the character. That’s where haptics comes into play. The imagery offered to the player’s eyes is painful by itself, but we wanted to increase this feeling by giving a sensation to the hands holding the controller. Players are also able to feel the directions of haptics (left or right hand), further adding to the experience.

From the smallest interaction, such as feeling the low rumble of an organic head-mounted display to the situations in which players find themselves in dire and dangerous encounters, the DualSense controller haptics elevate the feeling of immersion by balancing the intensity of vibration according to in-game sounds.

We have also made immersive use of the DualSense controller adaptive triggers when the player needs to use tools and weapons to survive. Every weapon or tool has a subtle, but different feeling of weight. For example, the piston-like melee tool, used to operate different contraptions, and occasionally in desperate attempts of self-defense, has a specific resistance in the trigger that when used alongside the haptics, enhances the desired effect.

Finally, the DualSense controller light bar represents the health of the player, changing colors in appropriate situations. It is a small addition to the otherwise very minimalistic HUD in Scorn. The idea is that a player can get a piece of immediate information on their HP status while playing the game.

Balancing the DualSense controller features was not an easy task but with coordination between TechArt, Programming, and Audio teams, we have successfully pulled it through and made something special for PlayStation 5 players.

We are also very proud to announce that following popular demand, a physical version of the game will be available at the same time as the digital version, including a digital artbook, digital version of the Original Soundtrack composed by Aethek & Lustmord, and, only available at selected retailers, an exclusive SteelBook:

We can’t wait for all PlayStation fans to delve into our mesmerizing world later this year. Stay tuned for more information!

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.35 adds 3 exciting new cars, GT Café Menus, and more – out today

Gran Turismo players! The 1.35 update for Gran Turismo 7 arrives today June 28 at 11pm PDT* / June 29 at 7am BST / 3pm JST.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.35 adds 3 exciting new cars, GT Café Menus, and more – out today

Introduction of 3 New Cars

Aston Martin Valkyrie ’21
A uniquely shaped hypercar with F1 derived aerodynamics.

Aston Martin is one of Britain’s most beloved luxury sports car manufacturers. This hyper car, the Valkyrie, is a result of their near 110 years of experience in the field combined with the expertise of F1 constructor Red Bull Racing. The design started from an idea for an innovative road car devised by Red Bull Racing’s designer and aerodynamics expert Adrian Newey. Newey took his proposal to Aston Martin where he made a connection with their chief designer Marek Reichman. In 2016, the project began in earnest as ‘AM-RB 001’. The car developed under the AM-RB 001 codename was first unveiled at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, along with its official name, the Valkyrie.

Production versions of the Valkyrie were first seen in 2021, taking form as a uniquely shaped hyper car which incorporated F1 derived aerodynamics with the Aston Martin design language. The high nose of the car is equipped with an underslung wing and creates powerful downforce through the Venturi tunnels running under the body. Between them sits the teardrop shaped cockpit where the driver and passenger sit feet-up in the style of a formula car. Extensive lightening has been implemented across the carbon-fiber body with even the Aston Martin nose emblem being reduced to a 70-micron thick piece of aluminum. As a result, the car weighs roughly 1,000 kg, achieving an astonishing power-to-weight ratio of 1.01 kg/BHP.

Hard mounted to the rear of the cabin is the hybrid power unit, a Cosworth 6.5L naturally aspirated V12 engine with KERS (kinetic energy recovery system). The total output of the system is 1,140 BHP putting the car on par with even top category racing machines. The Valkyrie was first available in a limited run of 150 coupe models, which sold out almost immediately despite the price tag of over 2M pounds. The coupe was followed by the ‘AMR pro’ Le Mans style competition model and an open-top ‘Spider’ model. This pinnacle of performance is notable as one of the first hyper cars to reach the level of an LMP1 machine.

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution III GSR ’95
Improved aerodynamics and cooling make for the ultimate first wave ‘Evo’.

The Lancer Evolution was launched in September 1992. Starting with the compact body of the commercial Lancer saloon and adding Mitsubishi’s mechanisms used only for the WRC-grade Galant VR-4, the Lancer Evolution became a rally-oriented car. At the core of this car was the 4G63, a turbocharged 2.0 L DOHC inline-4 engine, already producing 246.5 BHP and 31.5 kgfm of torque at the time of its debut. With overwhelming traction and power delivered to all four wheels, it was already much faster than any other model in its class.

One year after its creation, in December 1993, the improved Lancer Evolution II was revealed, with its maximum power output increased to 256.4 BHP. The tyres were also changed to 205/60R15, and modifications to the wheelbase and the tread size were also implemented. Around this time, it started to be called by its famous nickname, “Lan-Evo”, by the Japanese fans. Another evolution happened in January 1995.

The 3rd generation, called Lancer Evolution III, saw its exterior drastically modified to improve aerodynamic performance. With a larger opening in the front bumper and a larger rear spoiler, it now had the powerful look of a vehicle focused on competition. The compression ratio of the 4G63 power unit was raised to 9.0, improving maximum power output to 266.3 BHP. Detailed changes and enhancements were also made to the suspension, and these changes greatly improved both engine performance and maneuverability. At the time, the base Lancer model was about to receive a full model change, and it was rumored then that the Evo III may in fact be the last Evo.

Subaru Impreza Sedan WRX STi ’04
2nd generation Impreza which was developed alongside the rally spec model.

Just one year after the release of the radical Spec C, in November 2002, a facelift was already being implemented in the Impreza series. Though loved by many, the previous round headlights proved to be unpopular on the mass market and were abandoned in favor of imposing new teardrop-shaped lights. This time, under joint development with the SWRT (Subaru World Rally Team), new expertise facilitated the creation of better aerodynamic characteristics. On the performance side, a twin-scroll turbo system was introduced for better spool efficiency along with a modified exhaust system to match. The crankshaft, along with the pistons and conrods were reinforced enabling the engine to produce 40.2 kgfm, the highest torque figure in the 2-litre class at the time.

Some manual transmission models were also equipped with a driver-controlled center differential featuring an automatic mode. Depending on the conditions while cornering, the distribution of torque to the front and rear of the central differential was divided automatically, and the car demonstrated tremendous effectiveness on both circuits and winding roads. In June 2004, a model with larger tires was introduced. This was in response to demands from the motorsport field, such as in the Super Taikyu Endurance racing. The maximum torque was also increased to 42.0 kgfm at this time. The Impreza found its way to fame as one of Japan’s most representative high-performance cars, recognized by enthusiasts the world over. From 2003, the exportation of the STi model to America began, and with the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution also starting exportation, the fierce rivalry reached further outside Japan’s borders.
