Feature: Where Does ‘Echoes Of Wisdom’ Fit In The Zelda Timeline? Here Are 3 Theories

Let’s do the timeline again.

Much to our shame, it took approximately 30 seconds of The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom reveal trailer for us to start thinking about the dreaded timeline.

In the weeks since, we’d wager that a similar thought has appeared in the minds of most Zelda fans out there. Whether that was a happy thought or an “Oh god, here we go again” will depend on how deep you are in the trenches of Hylian chronology. For some of us at Nintendo Life (eg. this writer — hello!) it landed firmly in the former camp and so, after an intense period of digesting, research, and trailer breakdowns, we think we’re just about ready to get into things.

Sonic X Shadow Generations Website May Be Teasing A Fourth Playable Character

‘Classic’ Shadow..?

Sonic X Shadow Generations is already gracing us with the return of Shadow the Hedgehog, but according to a page on the official Japanese website for the game, it seems that there may be a secret fourth playable character that has yet to be announced.

As spotted by Tails’ Channel on social media (thanks, VGC), the website displays modern Sonic, classic Sonic, Shadow, and a fourth slot that’s currently blank with the words ‘coming soon’ displayed underneath. You’ll need to click the blue star icon on the right-hand side if you want to swap between Sonic and Shadow.

Final Fantasy Creator Isn’t Interested In Revisiting The Franchise

“I almost live in Final Fantasy XIV”.

Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi has confirmed in a recent interview with Bloomberg (thanks, VGC) that he is not interested in revisiting the franchise.

Granted, given that he left Square Enix in 2003 to establish Mistwalker, this shouldn’t necessarily come as much of a shock, but what’s interesting is the reasoning behind his decision. According to Sakaguchi, he loaded up Final Fantasy XIV in 2021 with the intention of spending just a few hours with the game before attending an event.

Nintendo Runs Out Of Replacement Parts For Wii U, Ends Repair Service In Japan

“We will no longer be accepting repairs for Wii U”.

Last year in May, Nintendo’s Japanese support service revealed it would be ending repairs for the Wii U when its current parts inventory ran out. Now, in an update just over a year later on its website, it’s announced this service has officially ended.

Here’s a rough translation, explaining how it’s run out of the replacement parts necessary to repair consoles, with the company now no longer accepting repairs this week as of 3rd July 2024. This includes Wii U peripherals. You can see on its official website the many other systems it’s no longer accepting repairs for, which covers pretty much all of its previous generation handhelds and consoles.

Feature: “It Is Both Exciting And A Bit Terrifying” – Nightdive Studios On Reviving ‘The Thing’

“We were working on getting the rights to this game for several years”.

2002’s The Thing is widely regarded as one of the best horror games based on an existing media franchise. Many licensed horror games are sadly relegated to genres that require a specific setup, such as asymmetrical multiplayer or short VR experiences, but The Thing — a third-person squad-based shooter — dared to go one step further, telling its own unique story that serves as a proper sequel to John Carpenter’s 1982 movie masterpiece.

It’s not a game that frequents mainstream remaster wishlists, but Nightdive Studios is nevertheless delivering what few of us realised we wanted with The Thing: Remastered. Announced during IGN Live and scheduled to land on the Switch later this year, Computer Artworks’ original is getting the full revamp treatment, with updated visuals, improved lighting, numerous quality-of-life tweaks, and more.

Don’t Worry, Nintendo Likely Won’t Utilise Generative AI In Its Game Development

Phew…

It’s no secret that AI, and specifically generative AI, has become more and more prevalent in recent years, but if you’re concerned about Nintendo utilising the technology in its game development, then you can put those fears to rest… at least for now.

During the company’s recent annual shareholder meeting, president Shuntaro Furukawa was specifically asked about Nintendo’s interest in applying AI to its game development. Furukawa acknowledged AI’s benefits but seemingly confirmed that Nintendo would not be pursuing the technology for the time being, citing potential issues with intellectual property rights (a topic the firm is infamously strict about).
