That fish deserves a schooling.

Pets can do silly things. They eat newspapers, tear up fabric, and make us laugh. But one famous fish has accidentally revealed its owner’s credit card details during a Pokémon Violet livestream. Automaton Media reports that the fish found its way onto the eShop and did a number of things, including changing the user nickname and adding funds to the owner’s wallet.

Okay, this one needs some context, doesn’t it? Mutekimaru Channel is a Japanese YouTuber whose most well-known livestream series is called ‘Fish Play Pokémon’. On these streams — you guessed it — some pet fish actually manages to play through entire Pokémon games. The channel has played through Pokémon Crystal, LeafGreen, and Sapphire, among many others — with 20,00 hours of playtime under their belt, this school of fish is incredibly impressive.

Another Switch exclusive coming out in the earlier half of this year is Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon. In case you missed this one, it’s a new spin-off in the Bayonetta series that was revealed last year at The Game Awards.

This new title is set in a storybook-like world, where players take on the role of Cereza – a young apprentice witch who goes on a fateful journey into a forbidden forest to gain the power to save her mother. It’s made up of exploration, combat and puzzle-solving.

What could it be for?

Swedish developer and indie publisher Thunderful Games – best known for the SteamWorld series – has shared a new “incoming message” on social media and YouTube teasing something.

Apart from being a teaser for related to SteamWorld, it’s unclear what exactly it’s for. All we know is that there will be a reveal of sorts taking place this week on 18th January. Here’s the message that was shared online:

Last week, peripheral maker NYXI unveiled a new GameCube-themed Nintendo Switch controller called the NYXI Wizard.

As you can see, it takes a lot of inspiration from the GameCube pad, right down to the original indigo colour. It also promises “no drifting” and comes with a turbo function, an ergonomic slip-free design and replaceable joysticks. It’s probably going to be a great match with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

FIFA 23 is once again on top.

The latest UK charts are in and it’s pretty unremarkable, all told.

FIFA 23 regains its dominance at number one after slipping down to number two last week. The Switch version made up 25% of the split, coming in behind the PlayStation 5 version at 41%.

The scales are tipping.

Fire Emblem Engage is out this Friday, but some lucky people have already got their hands on the game. According to Fendoreo1 on ResetEra (don’t click the link if you want to avoid spoilers), someone is currently playing through the entirety of Fire Emblem Engage and posting their impressions online — including screenshots.

If you don’t want to know anything else about the upcoming game, it’s best to get muting right away as new details are emerging such as additional characters, maps, cutscenes, and story beats. Be safe out there!

The blob that never was.

In a time before Splatoon, de Blob was the big name in spreading colourful ink around town. Unlike Nintendo’s inky shooter, the series saw you take control of a colour-absorbing ball which would complete various challenges by spreading paint across a monochromatic landscape.

You might remember de Blob on the Wii, its sequel (de Blob 2) on the DS, or the two remastered editions on the Switch, but you won’t remember the original’s DS release — mainly because it never saw the light of day. At least, that was the case up until recently, when popular gaming YouTuber @RebelTaxi took to Twitter to share an early build of the game that they had been sent (thanks, My Nintendo News).

Can you believe we’re only just over a month away from Octopath Traveler II‘s release? Well, ahead of the game’s launch on 24th February, Square Enix has shared some previews of the game’s soundtrack over on its Japanese site (via NoisyPixel). And my goodness, if there’s one thing we can be sure of, the music sounds like it will be special.

Was there any doubt, with Octopath Traveler composer Yasunori Nishiki returning to the help? Of course not. And from every single trailer we’ve had so far, the music has sounded magnificent. But Square Enix wants to hammer that home and has shared 42 samples (!!!) of the upcoming soundtrack. That’s the first two discs of this behemoth six-disc OST.

Undead and docked.

Every decade or so, something big happens to bring zombies back into our lives. Whether it was the release of George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead in 1978, the publication and subsequent adaptation of The Walking Dead, the hugely popular ‘Zombies’ mode in the Call of Duty series, or the meteoric rise of The Last of Us, we love a date with the undead.

This fascination with these brain-munching beings has inspired games by the boatload. Yes, there are the two aforementioned series, but the list of great zombie games goes on. The Switch, for the most part, has steered clear of these big titles. There are a lot of zombie games on the console for you to sink your teeth into, but the number of them that we would actually recommend playing? That’s a much shorter list.

Digimon fans will want to make some space on their Switch with the arrival of Digimon World: Next Order next month. This new version of the 2016 PlayStation Vita release comes with a brand new ‘Beginner’ mode on Switch and also other features like the ability to run faster.

Additionally, there are improved specs. As highlighted via a translation, the official Japanese game website has revealed the title is “largely a 60 FPS experience”, but can drop to 30 FPS in certain circumstances. In terms of resolution, the game will run at 1080p docked and 720p handheld. In contrast, the PS4 version runs at a consistent 60 FPS, with a resolution of 1080p.
