It’s a celebration of all things Mario this week with his new animated movie making its debut in cinemas worldwide.
As part of this, Nintendo has released a new bunch of icons to its ‘Missions and Rewards’ scheme for the Switch Online service. This time around, it’s a set of icons based on Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury. Here’s a look at each wave available throughout the month of April through to the earlier half of May:

A super debut?
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is out now in several regions, bringing an end to months, if not years, of speculation and anticipation.
We’ve provided our own thoughts in our review of the movie, along with a video discussion for your perusal, but what we’d really like to find out now is what you fine folks make of it. We’ve started providing fun little polls on some of the more recent Switch releases to find out exactly how you all might score them, but this will be the first one we try out for a movie. When will the next one occur? Who knows, maybe when Sonic 3 comes out in 2024.

Persona! TMNT Cowabunga Collection! LEGO Star Wars! More!
Nintendo of America has revealed its latest Partner Spotlight Sale, offering up to 80% off select titles on the North American Switch eShop.
There are a fair few big hitters that are seeing discounts thanks to this one, with both Persona 5 Royal and the Persona 3 Portable and 4 Golden Bundle getting a price cut. There are also savings to be made on LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Deluxe, Sonic Mania and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection (which recently received a swanky new update).

In need of regeneration?
Bandai Namco has opened up a survey for Tales of Symphonia Remastered, asking fans and those who’ve played the game to provide them feedback on the release.
The beloved action RPG — which initially launched on GameCube in 2003 — made it to Switch back in February in a remaster based on the Japan-only PS2 port. Yet many reported multiple bugs, glitches, and issues with the remaster, with some calling it “worse than the original”, comparing it unfavourably to the PS3 remaster.

In case you were wondering…
Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto is currently doing the press rounds for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and during a chat with Game Informer, the legendary video game creator was asked about the possibility of “other Nintendo” series being transformed into movies.
While we’re sure many fans out there are already dreaming of adaptations like The Legend of Zelda and Metroid series, there is “probably nothing to announce in the near future” even though Nintendo Pictures is now officially a thing. This shouldn’t be all that surprising to hear given how long it took Nintendo and Illumination to complete the Mario Movie. Here’s Miyamoto’s response in full:

Covering the good, the bad and the ugly.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is finally out today and we have some thoughts. There are thoughts about things that we liked, thoughts about things that we didn’t like, and thoughts about all things in between. We managed to get a lot of these down into our review, but a movie of this size was always going to benefit from the ol’ conversation treatment too, so that’s exactly what we’ve done.
In the above video, Alex and Jim team up to discuss their thoughts on the movie, covering the story, animation, score and that all-important voice cast. While the chat steers clear of any major spoilers, the pair do discuss several plot points, so if you want to go in completely blind, we would say that this is best watched after you have seen the movie — that way, you can join in and see if you agree or disagree with our comments.

For the European International Championships.
The Pokémon Center Pop-Up returns to the ExCel London next weekend — the 14th to 16th April — and you can now officially reserve your slot. The store is open over the same few days as the Pokémon European International Championships take place.
The Pop-Up is the third time a temporary Pokémon Center has opened its door in London. Previously, the store opened in 2019 ahead of Pokémon Sword & Shield‘s launch and during 2022’s World Championships.

When you think of the titles of some of Nintendo’s most iconic platform games, many of them just make sense as they are: Super Mario World, Kirby’s Dream Land, and Donkey Kong Country. It all fits as a naming convention, right? Well, according to ex-Rare dev Kev Bayliss, the inclusion of the word ‘Country’ in Donkey Kong Country for the SNES actually has a more significant meaning behind it.
In a reply to a question on Twitter as to how the addition of the word ‘Country’ came to be, Bayliss confirmed that the game had been known as ‘The Country Project’ during development, owing to the fact that Rare was effectively situated in the middle of the countryside. Bayliss states that Nintendo had simply decided to keep ‘Country’ in the name, and so Donkey Kong Country was born.

Wave 4 of the Expansion Pass has arrived.
Fire Emblem Engage has had an update jumping all the way up to Version 2.0.0. This update makes way for Wave 4 of the game’s Expansion Pass content.
Apart from this, an “update bonus” has been added, collaboration content with the mobile app Fire Emblem Heroes can now be downloaded and various issues have also been resolved to make for a more enjoyable experience.
