#24 – Zappy days.

For the month before the 3DS and Wii U eShops close for new purchases on 27th March, each day we’re going to highlight a specific eShop game for one of those consoles and give a short pitch as to why we think it deserves your love and attention — before it’s too late. Random: YouTuber Spends Nearly $23K Buying Every 3DS & Wii U eShop Game

Jirard Khalil completes his preservation mission.

The 3DS and Wii U eShop services are shutting down at the end of this month and that means you’ve only got so much time left to buy all of the digital games you possibly can on Nintendo’s older storefronts. YouTuber, streamer and video game media personality Jirard “The Completionist” Khalil has taken this to the next level by quite literally purchasing every game available on these platforms.

The main driving force behind this idea was video game preservation – with the aim to “save” every 3DS and Wii U eShop title before they are lost forever. The mission was successful but it’s come at a price, with the total amount of purchases adding up to $22,791 USD. Here’s a bit about why Khalil wanted to do this so much:

Talking Point: What Makes A Really Good Demo?

Time is money.

As the Switch eShop library continues to grow, so too does the number of available demos. And hey, demos are great!

This convenient way to try before you buy has got us hooked on many a game that we may never have otherwise picked up, and with a number of demos offering the chance to carry your data over from the trial into the full version, playing through introductions increasingly feels purposeful instead of ‘ugh, I’m going to have to play all of this again in the full version, aren’t I?’

Developed by Knight Shift Games, Elsie will see you taking on the role of the titular character in an attempt to save your world from the disasters that have long befallen it. To do so, you will have to make your way through a series of environments each packed to the brim with dangerous hoards of enemy robots dispatching each of them with your arsenal of explosive weapons (so far, so roguelike).
