Celeste Composer Releases “Concept Album” For Studio’s Cancelled Follow-Up, Earthblade

Drawing inspiration from Vangelis, Ghibli & more.

Earthblade, the next game from Celeste developer Extremely OK Games, was sadly cancelled earlier this year following what studio founder Maddy Thorson described as “a disagreement about the IP rights of Celeste”. We only got a very small taste of what this follow-up would offer — a Game Awards reveal trailer and the odd blog post — but now composer Lena Raine has shared a “concept album” of her work on the project and, expectedly, it sounds beautiful (thanks, Eurogamer).

‘EARTHBLADE ~ Across the Bounds of Fate’ is now available to listen to and buy on Bandcamp. It consists of nine brand new tracks, both “conceptual and implemented”, which Raine hopes will tell her own version of the game, and draws inspiration from the likes of Vangelis, Joe Hisaishi’s work on Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind and Yoko Kanno’s Cowboy Bebop score.

Chrono Trigger To Celebrate 30th Anniversary With “Various Projects”

Expect more “over the next year”.

A lot of classic video games are coming up on major milestones and anniversaries, and one of them happens to be Square Enix’s legendary 1995 RPG Chrono Trigger.

Today actually happens to be the game’s 30th anniversary since its initial Super Famicom and SNES release and to mark this special occasion, Square Enix has announced it is planning a variety of projects over the next year which will apparently go “beyond the world of the game”. This comes from a translation via the official company and game social media accounts. Here it is in full:

Classic Super Mario Soundtrack Joins Nintendo’s Music App For MAR10 Day

Bop to the beat.

The MAR10 Day celebrations this year have been fairly lowkey, but we’re not entirely done just yet. In case you missed it, Nintendo has added a new soundtrack to its Nintendo Music mobile application and sure enough it’s a Mario one!

Following on from Super Mario Bros. 2 last month and the Zelda: Link to the Past album last week, the latest soundtrack comes from Nintendo’s all-time NES classic Super Mario Bros. 3. This album is loaded with 42 tracks and has a total runtime of 32 minutes. Here’s the full rundown:

Capcom Slashes The Price Of Monster Hunter, Ace Attorney In Big eShop Sale (US)

Mega Man, Resident Evil, Ghost Trick all discounted.

Capcom is having a huge eShop sale right now in the US, with up to 75% off of some of the studio’s biggest IPs. Thanks to the ever-reliable Wario64 for bringing this to our attention!

Monster Hunter is among the biggest here, and while the franchise is currently eating up everyone’s free time on other consoles, those curious about what MonHun is might be tempted to dive into Monster Hunter Rise on Switch at a heavily discounted price of $9.99 — or $19.99 if you want it bundled with the expansion, Sunbreak.

New Nintendo Patent Hints At Improved Voice Chat On Switch 2

Chatter up!

A new patent from Nintendo seems to suggest that voice chat will be better implemented into Switch 2, finally overcoming one of our biggest complaints with ‘Switch 1’ (thanks, Wccftech).

The patent was filed back in November 2024 before being published by the United States Patent Application Office late last month. The main thrust of the text and diagrams appears to outline something akin to in-game proximity chat, or as the summary confusingly puts it, when “the sound heard by the user can be gradually switched from the sound acquired by the residual virtual microphone at the position before movement to the sound acquired by the virtual microphone at the current position”. Nice and clear, eh?

New 18+ LEGO Mario Kart Set Is A Better Build Than We Expected

Pole position on our wishlists.

During the MAR10 Day celebrations last year, Nintendo dropped a teaser for an upcoming Mario Kart ‘big build’ set – with a silhouette that showcased a more detailed kart than we had previously seen from the child-friendly builds. A year of silence ensued, but we’d expect our first official look to arrive later on today after an official LEGO retailer site revealed a bunch of details about the upcoming set. Mamma mia!

According to the Australian LEGO Certified Stores site, the ‘LEGO Super Mario: Mario Kart – Mario & Standard Kart’ set (nice and snappy, eh?) is set to launch on 15th May for $249.99 AUD, which is around £122 / $158. And it’s one for grown-ups only, apparently consisting of 1,972 pieces and earning itself an adult ’18+’ age rating in the process.
