Classic NES Title ‘Gimmick!’ Confirmed For Switch Release This July

Update: Release date trailer drops for Sunsoft’s retro gem.

Update #2 : It’s been a while, but Bitwave Games has announced that Gimmick! Special Edition, originally published by Sunsoft on NES in Japan and Scandinavia in original, non-Special Edition form, will be landing on Switch (and other platforms) on 6th July 2023.

A new trailer (above) shows off some of the new features, and Bitwave also confirms that a physical edition will be available at some point “later in the year” on both Switch and PS4.

Nintendo Switch Surpasses One Billion Software Sales

Now that’s a lot of games.

As a part of the latest financial report for the fiscal year ending March 2023, Nintendo has provided updated figures for both its hardware and software sales. While the Switch’s hardware numbers started to slow as the console reached 125 million units sold (as of March 2023), the big milestone this time around is on the software side of things as the Switch has exceeded one billion sales in that department.

The actual number is 1,036,150,000 units, if we want to be really picky and why shouldn’t we be? That’s a huge figure!

Switch Hardware Sales Now Over 125 Million, PS2, Nintendo DS Target Still A Way Off

Feeling the burn.

Nintendo has posted its end-of-year report for FY2023 and as of March 2023, the Switch family of systems has sold over 3 million since the last quarter, bringing the lifetime total number of units sold to a cool 125.62 million.

Back in February the total stood at 122.55, which took sales past the milestones set by both the Game Boy (118.69 units) and Sony’s PlayStation 4 (117.2). The Nintendo DS is still ahead in the ranks of best-selling video game consoles, though, with a whopping 154.02 million lifetime sales to its name. And Sony’s PS2 tops the table with 155 million.

Zelda Speedrunners Excited About New Mechanics In Tears Of The Kingdom

The Zelda series has always had a dedicated community of speedrunners and later this week on 12th May they’ll be returning for Tears of the Kingdom.

IGN recently spoke to Breath of the Wild speedrunners ‘Player 5’ and Tom “Tallest Thomas” Rasmussen – asking them how they feel about starting over in Tears of the Kingdom and to get an insight into what they’re expecting in the early days of the sequel.

“DS Inspired” Precision Puzzler Reflectile Targeting Switch Release

A new Kickstarter with a Switch port goal.

If you have fond memories of the Nintendo DS generation, you may want to take a look at the Kickstarter campaign for Reflectile – a stylish new precision puzzle game by indie developer Joe Aquiare.

A Switch port has been promised if the project can reach $35,000 USD, and it’s currently at around $8,500 (with a target goal of $15,000 for the initial PC release) with 11 days remaining. You’ll take control of a small tile that must reach a goal at the end of each level. It’s described as a “minimal, stylish, and challenging top-down puzzle game” that’s deceptively simple.

Nintendo Live 2023 To Run “Alongside” PAX West, Registration Opens May 31st

Event runs from September 1st – 4th.

Nintendo Live 2023 will run from 1st to 4th September at the Seattle Convention Center alongside PAX West, Nintendo has announced.

It will be a ticketed event, and tickets are free — although you’ll need to register and be selected. Registration for tickets starts on May 31 at 9am PT and runs until June 22 at 11:59pm PT.

UK Charts: Mario Kart And Odyssey Keeps Nintendo In The Top Ten

The calm before the Tears?

The latest UK charts are now in and this week has been a slightly quieter one from Nintendo (at least, as far as the top ten is concerned).

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Odyssey are the only Nintendo titles to land in the upper portion of the rankings this time, though Mojang’s Minecraft Legends continues to sell well on the console, with 78% of purchases coming from the Switch.
