“this chapter is shaping up to be a pretty strange one”.

It has been almost two years since our last instalment of Deltarune, Toby Fox’s follow-up to Undertale and, given the three-year wait between the first two chapters, this isn’t all that surprising. However, Fox has recently shared an update on the development of Chapter 3 to keep us all in the loop about what’s going on (thanks, Nintendo Everything).

Released as a part of his free newsletter, Fox noted that progress is still being made on Chapter 3, with the team working on the final overworld area for the instalment. After this, it looks like the chapter should be almost ready to go with Fox stating that he will need to give it a thorough once-over — though he hopes that this won’t take too long.

Pokémon GO is still the “top priority”.

Niantic hit the big time with Pokémon GO and rapidly expanded into multiple other augmented reality-driven mobile experiences. Unfortunately, post-pandemic it’s now experiencing a rough patch – with an update on the company website and email to employees revealing Niantic is axing two games and letting go of 230 employees as part of its LA studio closure.

Niantic CEO John Hanke told employees and fans how the company had decided to “narrow” its focus on certain mobile game investments. NBA All-World will be sunset and production on Marvel: World of Heroes will come to a halt.

Mario Kart and Smash Bros. tournaments will feature.

If you happen to be located in the US and can set aside a few days in late July, you might be interested in checking out the anime and gaming experience ‘Dream Con 2023’ taking place in Austin, Texas.

Nintendo of America will be a sponsor of the 2023 event. Nintendo games have “played a major part in past events” and there will be even more relevant tournament opportunities this year – covering titles like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (1 v 1), Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (sponsored), and a bunch of third-party games like Dragon Ball FighterZ and Mortal Kombat 11.

Following up on the Danganronpa series was always going to be a tricky proposition. With its deceptively simple ‘Killing Game’ premise, its huge cast of eclectic characters, and its often overwhelmingly macabre atmosphere, it’s no wonder Spike Chunsoft’s visual novel franchise became such a hit with players worldwide.

Naturally, the temptation with a spiritual successor is to go bigger and bolder, and that’s exactly what developers Too Kyo Games and Spike Chunsoft have strived for with Master Detective Archives: Rain Code. And make no mistake, it’s absolutely a spiritual successor to Danganronpa in our eyes; while Rain Code differs fundamentally in how you navigate the environment and interact with its inhabitants, both require you to use your keen detective skills to solve a series of gruesome murders.

He’s got the whole world.

One of the best-looking indie titles at this year’s Summer Game Fest was Cocoon, the gorgeous puzzle adventure from former leads on Playdead’s Limbo and Inside. Now we know that you’ll be able to carry entire worlds on your back on the Switch when the game launches on 29th September 2023.

A brand new trailer, along with the release date, was shared during today’s Annapurna Interactive showcase. Our sister site Push Square went hands-on with the game at the summer showcase and said that “it will be something special” when it releases — blimey.

You witness a King’s revival.

This week’s Japanese charts are now in from Famitsu (via Gematsu), and we have finally seen The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom bumped down a place after holding onto pole position for a tasty six weeks.

Of course, it is Final Fantasy XVI that goes home with the gold this time, selling a massive 336,027 copies in its opening week. For comparison, TOTK lands in second place with 25,155 sales, which is a fair jump.

Turnip Boy has already got away with tax evasion, but apparently, our raucous root vegetable is still up to his usual tricks, if today’s announcement is anything to go by. That’s right — Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion is getting a sequel, and it’s coming to Switch later this year, developer Snoozy Kazoo and publisher Graffiti Games have announced.

Turnip Boy Robs a Bank was announced last year for PC and Xbox Game Pass, but we’re happy to exclusively reveal that the game has now been confirmed for a Switch release at the same time. While the original game had some clear inspiration, Turnip Boy gets a bit more violent — and risky — with this follow-up, combining top-down adventure elements with roguelite gameplay. All in the name of robbing the bank.

It’s dangerous to go alone, read this!

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has been out for a little over a month now and what a month it has been! We have each poured hundreds of hours into exploring this vast Hyrule, defeating monsters and solving puzzles as we go. But, let’s admit it, a lot of us have also gotten stuck once or twice on the journey.

So, where do you turn when you find yourself stumped by one particular problem and unable to move on? The Pokémon Company and Nintendo have released a new update for the Switch titles Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, bumping both games up to Version 1.3.2.

This patch appears to be the smallest one yet, referencing some adjustments to upcoming tournaments. Dataminers may be able to shed some more light on this in time. Here’s the full rundown, courtesy of Nintendo’s official support page:
