Befriend Witches And Create Tarot Cards In The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood, On Switch Next Month

Something wicked this way comes.

Devolver Digital has today given us another look at The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood, a witch-filled narrative experience which we now know will be materialising on Switch on 16th August.

The game comes from Spanish developers Deconstructeam — the team behind 2019’s great cyberpunk tale The Red Strings Club — and will see you taking on the role of Fortuna, an exiled witch who takes her Tarot card-reading powers into her own hands in an attempt to regain her freedom. Creating your own deck of divination cards and using them to investigate your fellow witches’ lives, you will guide Fortuna through a heartfelt story that looks to tackle some pretty heavy themes.

Random: Fan Reimagines Resident Evil 4 As A 2D Side-Scroller

2Demake.

We have seen Resident Evil 4 reimagined in a variety of ways over the years. Aside from the recent swanky remake, fans of the series have regularly taken the 2005 GameCube game in new and creative directions, but now we have seen it in a new dimension too (thanks, PCGamesN).

Yes, one fan by the name of DooMero is working on a complete remake of the survival horror game in the style of a 2D side-scroller. The project has been underway for a good while now, with DooMero using the engine and modding tool GZDoom to bring the concept into reality — and from what we have seen so far, this is giving all the GBA vibes.

Video: Pikmin 4 Hides Some Harder Challenges, You Just Need To Know Where To Look

Spicy!

It was over seven years of waiting, but Pikmin 4 finally bloomed onto Switch last week and we love it. Bigger than any other title in the franchise, this fourth entry adds a boat-load of helpful new features, gorgeous environments and game-changing Pikmin types, but if we had one teeny tiny issue with the base game, it’s that it does fall a little on the easy side of things.

To be clear, this was not enough to put us off the game in any way (you can find our 9/10 review at the bottom of this article), though on an initial playthrough, we did wish for a little more challenge. Fortunately, there is an extra helping of difficulty once the game is all wrapped up.

Review: Pokémon Sleep – A Snore-Fest In Mostly The Right Ways

Is this a game to sleep on?

Pokémon Sleep has been a bit of an enigma ever since its reveal in 2019 and nobody quite knew what to make of it or even how it could possibly work. After years of silence, finally, in 2023, we have the game so we’ve fully got to grips with what’s on offer, and it is definitely an interesting one. We’ve spent over a week with Pokémon Sleep, which includes a full week cycle of all of the mechanics.

The basics of Pokémon Sleep are quite simple; you just have to sleep. Each night you can load the game, enter sleep time and put the phone, or Pokémon GO Plus + on your bed in order for it to track your sleep through motion, and if using your phone, audio. The game does recommend you do this while charging your device, but you can track sleep without plugging it in as long as your phone has sufficient battery. If you record over 90 minutes of sleep, then your sleep session will be logged. The game doesn’t reset the day until 4am as well so if you stay up late at night, it’ll still count towards the previous day.

Feature: How Summer Holidays And Childhood Nostalgia Revolutionised Pokémon

20 years of Ruby & Sapphire.

In 2003, Pokémon was at a bit of a crossroads. The first two sets of entries in its canon — Game Boy debuts Red and Blue, followed by sequels Gold and Silver — had cemented the series as one of the biggest of all time in gaming, defining millennial pop culture. With the arrival of Nintendo’s new handheld, the Game Boy Advance, Game Freak was poised to continue its dominance of the medium with the third generation of critters in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, which saw their European release on this day 20 years ago.

However, it was also a time when the franchise was on a decline from its commercial heyday as the kids who had considered the first two generations as their bread and Butterfree had become uninterested teenagers. Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire still became best-selling titles on the GBA — with reported lifetime sales of over 16 million — but this was still a notable drop from the first two generations, which had surpassed 30 and 20 million, respectively, suggesting a waning of mainstream popularity. Those who were still on board, however, were offered a new adventure in the sunny, standalone region of Hoenn, which popped with 16-bit visual splendour, served up reinvigorated gameplay mechanics and introduced favourites like the meme-able Mudkip, Rayquaza and (sometimes for slightly more disturbing reasons) Gardevoir.
