Review: Bomb Rush Cyberfunk – Bleeding Cool Style But Always In Jet Set’s Shadow

A turf battle against nostalgia.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is an immensely conflicting outing that capitalizes on nostalgia by drawing water from the same punk-as-hell city tap as Jet Set Radio. Sometimes the cup runs over. Others, rusted pipes bleed into the water, poisoning the experience.

Jet Set Radio casts a low-poly shadow over any game about street culture or graffiti—cel-shaded or not—and Bomb Rush Cyberfunk deserves better than getting labeled as an imitator and getting hocked in some back alley tourist trap with knockoff Gucci bags and Rolex watches. But despite its effort to tag its own turf, Bomb Rush ends up retreading old ground and painting over tags left by the Dreamcast classic and reigning king of the microgenre.

EA Dev BioWare “Eliminating” Approximately 50 Jobs In Shift Towards More Agile & Focused Studio

“An extremely difficult day for everyone at BioWare”.

The Electronic Arts developer BioWare – known for famous RPG series such as Baldur’s Gate, STAR WARS: Knights of the Old Republic and Mass Effect – has announced it is “eliminating approximately 50 roles” at the studio.

In order to match the changing needs, it will shift towards a “more agile and more focused studio” – allowing developers to iterate quickly, unlock more creativity and form a clear vision of the games being built before development is ramped up. This “extremely difficult” decision will also apparently “preserve the health of the studio” and allow it to focus more on what it does best: “create exceptional story-driven single-player experiences filled with vast worlds and rich characters.”

Dome-King Cabbage Is A Visual Novel That’s Just As Bizarre As Its Title Suggests

Cropped.

What do you think a video game called Dome-King Cabbage is about? If you said farming sim, you’re wrong. If you said survival game… you’re also wrong. The title doesn’t really give anything away, but it also gives everything away — it’s really darn weird.

Dome-King Cabbage is a visual novel which takes place inside a monster-collecting RPG. Main character Mush is trying to become the ‘Dome-King’ and, in order to prepare for this job interview, uses their experience in monster-collecting to view the world through the lens of this beloved RPG. The trailer, above, is psychadelic, and it shows off the many strange choices you’ll have to make along the way to getting your new job.

Guide: Best Nintendo Switch Soulslikes – Games To Play If You Like Dark Souls

Git gud games.

Updated with the macabre sequel, Blasphemous 2 and the surprising stripped-down experience Bleak Sword DX.

When Dark Souls launched back in 2011, it ushered in a new era of lore-filled and inscrutable combat-focused games that gave players the freedom to follow their own path and play style, but steadfastly refused to ‘go easy’ on them. Every encounter in FromSoftware’s series, no matter how minor, has the potential to end in tears; if you blunder in mindlessly mashing buttons, you will be punished.
