3DS Emulator Citra Is Coming To Meta Quest Next Week

Say hello to CitraVR.

The popular open-source 3DS emulator Citra is making its way to the Meta Quest platform as a native OpenXR application called CitraVR on January 20th, 2024.

As reported by UploadVR, the application will launch in beta on SideQuest and GitHub, skipping Steam as a result of the Dolphin emulator’s legal issues. Users will be able to play 3DS titles legally by dumping their games through a hacked 3DS. You can, of course, also download ROMs, though Citra itself doesn’t endorse doing so.

Nintendo Dev On Using Anatomy Studies To Create Metroid Dread’s Amiibo

Although the critically acclaimed Metroid Dread was primarily developed by Spanish studio MercurySteam, Nintendo itself was heavily involved in the game’s creation and marketing, as you’d expect.

Like many major releases on the Nintendo Switch, Metroid Dread also benefitted from the launch of amiibo, with a Samus/E.M.M.I dual pack available alongside the game itself. Nintendo developer Uenaka Minoru has recently spoken on the creation of the amiibo via a recruitment page and how his studies in ‘artistic anatomy’ at graduate school helped inform the overall look of the figures (thanks, Nintendo Everything).

Oh No, GameStop Is Closing Its NFT Marketplace

GameStop has announced that it has “decided to wind down” its NFT marketplace after initially launching in July 2022.

As reported by Decrypt (thanks, VGC), users will be unable to buy, sell, or create NFTs as of February 2nd, 2024, with GameStop citing the “continuing regulatory uncertainty of the crypto space” as its reasoning for the closure.

8-Bit Parody ‘The Transylvania Adventure Of Simon Quest’ Comes To Switch In 2025

Is that you, Castlevania II?

If you’re looking for an alternative to a certain Konami series, how about this new 8-bit sidescrolling platformer? The Transylvania Adventure of Simon Quest is described as a “parody/homage”, and will be coming to the Nintendo Switch and multiple other platforms at some point in 2025.

You’ll even play as a guy named Simon who must resurrect and then slay Dracula by jumping between the overworld and various mansions. There are also minigames, a range of weapons and items, and a built-in randomiser to keep you coming back for more. Here’s a bit of extra information (via Steam):
