Mother 3 Switch Icons Out Now In Japan

Like the game, they’re not available locally.

Last month, Nintendo surprised fans by adding Mother 3 to the Switch Online’s Game Boy Advance library. The only downside is this title hasn’t actually been added to the service locally.

Now, to add to the suffering, Nintendo has made new Mother 3 icons available to Switch Online subscribers in Japan. The characters will set you back 10 Platinum Points each and the borders and backgrounds will cost 5 Platinum Points each.

Review: Ancient Weapon Holly (Switch) – Serviceable But Shallow Roguelite Action

Hey, everybody. Want to kill all humans?

There is no shortage of terrible things buried deep underground, but, in Ancient Weapon Holly, you get to be the worst of them. This roguelike from Acquire, one of the studios behind the Octopath Traveler series, puts you in control of a powerful robot that seeks revenge on the humans that buried it for thousands of years. Reaching the surface and killing all humans will take a bit longer than you’d expect, though.

At first glance, Ancient Weapon Holly is a serviceable, fun, action-packed roguelite. The game consists of ten levels to play through, each one increasing in difficulty. Holly starts with a basic ranged attack and the ability to open up pits in the floor for enemies to fall into. These can be closed up to instantly kill most enemies, particularly once you’ve upgraded your attack power through the game’s version of a sphere grid. It is an interesting mechanic and the combat is chaotic enough to keep you interested for a few hours, but the game’s lack of depth makes it feel repetitive long before Holly reaches the surface.

Review: LEGO Animal Crossing – Bunnie’s Outdoor Activities – Is It Any Good?

New Horizons on the block.

Nintendo’s latest collaboration with Lego has resulted in a handful of Animal Crossing sets, a crossover that fans have been begging for ever since the firms’ first collaboration, the LEGO Super Mario sets, were announced back in March 2020 — coincidentally Animal Crossing: New Horizons‘ launch month.

In the years since, we’ve seen a bunch of Nintendo-themed Lego sets encompassing the more play-focused Super Mario series to the grander, more expensive sets like the Nintendo Entertainment System, the Mario 64 ‘?’ Block, and the mighty Bowser, which are aimed at older gamers.

Review: New Star GP (Switch) – A Stylish, Moreish Homage To The Likes Of Virtua Racing

We’ve certainly Senna lot worse.

Every now and then you get an indie developer who you can rely on to deliver a banger pretty much every time. New Star Games is one such developer, having already scored healthy scores on Nintendo Life in the past for New Star Manager (which scored 8), Retro Bowl (9), and Retro Goal (8).

Alongside its Switch releases, it’s also been responsible for a bunch of fantastic mobile games, including the likes of the New Star Soccer series, New Star Cricket, and New Star Baseball. Essentially, everything New Star touches turns to gold, but it’s also fair to say it has a style of game it’s best known for: retro-style sports games.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants Unleashed Is Bringing The Mayhem To Switch

Based on the 2023 movie.

You wait for news of a new Turtles game and then two come along in the space of a week. Warner Bros. Doubles Down On Its Commitment To Live Service Games

It wants to move away from “one-and-done console game”.

After revealing in November last year how it wanted to focus on transforming its biggest franchises into live services, Warner Bros. has now reiterated this at the Morgan Stanley conference earlier this week.

According to WB Discovery gaming boss J.B. Perrette, it’s no longer about launching “a one-and-done console game” but focusing on a live service where players can live, work, build, play and return to regularly:

Talking Point: What DS & 3DS Games Would You Still Like To See On Switch?

Dual-screen dreams.

We are still receiving top-notch releases by the bucketload on Switch, but as the console enters the latter phase of its lifespan, we are well and truly in remake & remaster territory. The Wii U barrel has quickly run dry (though some remain that we’d like to see make the jump to the hybrid) and recent years have seen Nintendo turn to the DS and 3DS catalogue for inspiration — and gosh has it proved useful so far!

Last year brought us the likes of Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective, Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes and Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection and 2024 has already served up Another Code: Recollection, Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy and Pocket Card Jockey: Ride On!, with Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, The Legend of Legacy HD: Remastered and more (probably) still yet to come.
