The Pokémon Company Sets Up A New Subsidiary Called ‘Pokémon Works’

Though its purpose is unknown.

The Pokémon Company has seemingly set up a new subsidiary in Japan called ‘Pokémon Works’ after the company was registered on 4th March, 2024.

As spotted by Serebii‘s Joe Merrick, the exact purpose of the subsidiary is unknown at this time, though it appears as though its location is in the same building as ILCA, the development company behind the likes of Pokémon HOME and Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Creators Of New Switch Emulator ‘Suyu’ Hope To Avoid Nintendo’s Wrath

“Suyu currently exists in a legal gray area”.

Earlier this month, the Switch emulator Yuzu was shut down in response to a legal push from Nintendo. It wasn’t all that surprising given the Big-N’s historic protection of its properties and disapproval of unsanctioned emulation, and equally unsurprising is that a new Switch emulator is already stepping up to take Yuzu’s place — one that, reportedly, is doing everything in its power to avoid a similar legal fate (thanks, Ars Technica).

Suyu (pronounced ‘sue-you’ *wink, wink* according to the emulator’s GitLab page) is built from the Yuzu source code and its aim is to continue the work of “the world’s most popular, open-source Nintendo Switch emulator, Yuzu.” It is not ready for use just yet, though the development team seems hopeful that it will get off the ground.

What could have been.

We know that another Super Mario Bros. Movie is on the way (Nintendo confirmed it’s coming in 2026, no less), but that doesn’t mean that we are quite done talking about its predecessor just yet. In fact, there’s something new to look at.

Jed Diffenderfer worked as a story developer and artist on the 2023 Illumination/Nintendo movie, and he has recently uploaded a fresh batch of concept art to his website which shows an initial vision for some of the movie’s memorable moments as well as some sections that didn’t make the cut (thanks, Nintendo Everything).

However, the focus right now is on “the new story”.

Speaking to Variety, The Pokémon Company International executives Andy Gose and Taito Okiura are still open to Ash potentially reappearing and “anything is possible”, but for now the focus is on the new story of Liko and Roy in Pokémon Horizons, which made its debut in North America last week.

Feature: ‘Little Kitty, Big City’ Dev Talks Cat Vids, Cosy Fatigue, Finding Inspiration In ‘Dark Souls’

“I almost put a reference in there…”.

We were lucky enough to play a lot of great games at Summer Games Fest 2023, but perhaps the biggest surprise was Little Kitty, Big City, an exploration-focused adventure from Double Dagger Studio where you play as a cat on its journey home.

From our hands-on preview, the game really dug its claws in and we’d be kitten ourselves if we said that weren’t excited to see it pounce onto Switch later this year.
