Random: Super Mario RPG Dev Shares Scrapped Sketch Proposals For SNES Original

We’re all having fun with Super Mario RPG on Switch, right? The return of this SNES classic has brought smiles to our faces with constant reminders of Nintendo at its weirdest, but, according to one Square developer who worked on the original title, it was almost a whole lot weirder.

In 1994, Jiro Mifune had just completed work on Live A Live (which also received a swanky Switch remaster last year) and was just about to get cracking on Chrono Trigger (which, unfortunately, did not) before he was brought onto Super Mario RPG. In the game’s early development, Mifune sketched up several ideas for how the Nintendo mascot might transition into the world of an RPG and guess what, he’s sharing those very sketches on Twitter!

Digital Eclipse’s Next ‘Gold Master Series’ Release Will Be Revealed Next Month

So this one initially slipped through the net, but Digital Eclipse is currently gearing up to announce the next entry in its Gold Master Series.

The developer, which was recently acquired by Atari, will reveal its follow-up to The Making of Karateka at Day of the Devs: The Game Awards Edition 2023 on December 7th.

Dimps Arcade Fighter ‘The Rumble Fish’ Scores An Enhanced Switch Release

Returning with new features next month.

Following on from The Rumble Fish 2, 3goo and Dimps Corporation have now announced they’re bringing The Rumble Fish+ to the Nintendo Switch next month on 20th December.

This 2004 fighting game will return with new features including online player-versus-player action and rollback netcode as well as a training mode, with CPU recording and a playback feature. Here’s the back story to this classic fighter, along with a cinematic trailer (above):

Xbox Reiterates Interest In Bringing Game Pass To “Every Screen” Including Nintendo Platforms

“It’s a bit of a change of strategy”.

Microsoft and Xbox have mentioned on a number of occasions how they want to make gaming more accessible than ever before, and during a recent appearance at the Wells Fargo TMT Summit earlier this week, Xbox CFO Tim Stuart reiterated this.

While he admits it’s a “bit of a change of strategy” compared to Xbox’s approach in the past and there’s nothing seriously happening right now, the mission is to bring the company’s “first-party experiences” as well as its subscription services to “every screen” that can play games. Well, geez, we’re less than a month away from Christmas and the holiday season, and we’re just over a month away from 2024. Guess it’s time to look at the final month of 2023 and see what games are coming to the Switch.

This is by no means a definitive list of games coming to Nintendo Switch in December 2023, but these are the ones we’re most excited to get our little mitts on. And yes, we know there are only 10 listed in the table below, but you can actually buy all three Batman games —Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, and Arkham Knight — separately. Good thing we’re a few days ahead of the month, hey?

Round Up: Everything Announced At The Level-5 Vision 2023 November Showcase

Level-5 is back with its second-ever Vision Showcase, providing more information on each of its five upcoming games that will be heading our way over the next few years.

The games were the same that we saw in the studio’s March showcase, though the focus this time around was to provide release windows for each of them. Many of these windows are later than expected and Level-5 boss Akihiro Hino was quick to apologise for the delays.

Monkey Island-Inspired ‘Lil’ Guardsman’ Gets A Bunch Of New Info

Welcome to The Sprawl.

Developer Hilltop Studios has revealed a whole bunch of new information about its upcoming adventure game Lil’ Guardsman in an extended blog post titled ‘Visitor’s Guide to The Sprawl‘.

Launching on Switch in “the coming months” (specific date currently unknown), Lil’ Guardsman contains gameplay inspired by Papers, Please in a colourful high-fantasy world inspired by classic ’90s LucasArts adventure classics like Monkey Island.
