Ah, nostalgia — it’s a tricksy thing. How many times have we gone back to revisit a treasured classic only to find that modern games have spoiled it for us? For all the brilliant aspects of retro games, the mod cons and performance we’re used to now are pretty fantastic, too, and sometimes going back can be tough. Was this slowdown always here? I don’t remember it looking this fuzzy. You mean I have to start again… at the beginning?!

Developer is now sole publisher of the IP.

Developer Frogwares, known for its work on the Sherlock Holmes franchise, has become the sole publisher of its open-world investigative game The Sinking City after a lengthy legal dispute with Nacon (formerly Bigben Interactive).

In a post on social media, Frogwares stated that the latest version of the game will be published on the likes of Steam, Epic Games, GOG, and Gamesplanet in the coming weeks. As we mentioned a little while back, the Switch version of The Sinking City has been unaffected by the ongoing dispute since Frogwares originally published it instead of Nacon.

What’s up, Doc?

Publisher and developer Pichon Games has announced that the gorgeous but gory horror adventure The Bunny Graveyard will be making the jump (heheh) over to Switch at some point in 2024.

Originally released on Steam last September, the game sees you playing as a mouse cursor on a computer (yes, really) and setting out to help a bunny discover the truth behind its existence. Of course, this is a horror adventure, so we can expect a fair number of jumps and scares along the way — many of which can be seen in the above Steam launch trailer.

Bowser, is that you?

Last year, Warner Bros. announced the live-action Minecraft movie would be released in cinemas in April 2025. Now, in a new update, Deadline is reporting the actor and musician Jack Black will be joining the cast.

The Kung Fu Panda and Tenacious D star will supposedly be playing the role of the player character Steve in this Jason Momoa-led film. Production on this new movie is “about to get underway”, but details about the plot haven’t been revealed just yet.

A demo arrives on Switch next week.

While January isn’t always the biggest month on the video game calender, this year there are already several games to look forward to. One of these is Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown – a new Metroidvania-style take on the classic platforming series.

If you’re wondering just how much bang for your buck you’ll be able to get from this one, according to Game Informer, this new adventure is estimated to be roughly 25 hours. It’s not entirely clear if this is just the main game or a completionist run. However, the length of each playthrough depends on player skill and the amount of exploration.

We all know what we want, though.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of EarthBound (known in Japan as Mother 2) and, according to the official X (formerly Twitter) page, plans are in place to celebrate the hefty milestone (thanks, My Nintendo News).

What these plans are, exactly, is up in the air at the moment, but we’re not expecting anything earth-shattering. After all, Earthbound itself is already playable on Switch via the Nintendo Switch Online service, and we’re way beyond anticipating any official Western release of its sequel, Mother 3.

Season Pass roadmap also revealed.

The Koei Tecmo-published action role-playing game Fate/Samurai Remnant will be getting “DLC Vol. 1” next month in February 2024.

It’s officially titled ‘Records Fragment: Keian Command Championship‘ and will be followed by two more DLC episodes later on in 2024. You can check out a teaser trailer of the first DLC above.

Here are the top 20 picks.

Everyone has a favourite Pokémon and recently in Japan, the strategy guide website ‘GameWith’ ran a poll asking trainers to vote for their top Pokémon from the Scarlet and Violet generation.

“Close to 152,700 people” apparently put their vote in and in the end, the new-generation grass/dark-type evolution Meowscarada won! In second place was the fire-type starter Fuecoco, and the ghost/fire-type Chandelure was in third. You can see the top 20 below, courtesy of Silconera:
