Upcoming Platformer ‘Krimson’ Looks Like A Nightmare, And We Want It

Metal as…

If you’ve been finding platformers to be a bit on the, shall we say, chill side, then you might want to keep an eye on Krimson, launching on the Switch eShop on 21 March, 2024.

Described as a ‘gritty, heart-pounding journey through a nightmarish hellscape’, Krimson sees you navigate a series of frankly ridiculous environments that pulse and move in time with the music. You must keep in time with the beat if you’re to survive, but judging from the trailer, you’ll also need sharp eyes to keep track of everything that’s going on.

Random: It’s Been Five Long Years Since Hollow Knight: Silksong Was Officially Announced

Is 2024 the year we finally get it?

You read the headline correctly — Hollow Knight: Silksong was officially revealed to the world five years ago today, on 14th February 2019.

The sequel to Hollow Knight, Silksong follows your rival-turned-friend Hornet, who is captured and taken to the kingdom of Pharloom, where she must escape and reach the top of the kingdom to find a “shining citadel”. Video: Digital Foundry’s Technical Analysis Of Tomb Raider I-III Remastered

“What’s here is generally very well done”.

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered arrives on the Switch this week and the tech experts at Digital Foundry have already got a video up about the performance and frame rate across each system.

In case you missed it, the Switch version of this remaster runs at a native 1080p and 60 frames per second in docked, and 720p at 60 frames per second in portable mode. Digital Foundry also notes how it did not encounter a single frame rate hiccup, so it really is a silky smooth and “near perfect” experience in terms of performance.

Nintendo’s New Princess Peach Game Appears To Be Running On Unreal Engine

A few other titles have also made use of it.

During the Switch generation, Nintendo has sometimes developed the odd title on a different engine. We’ve seen Yoshi’s Crafted World and more recently Pikmin 4 utilise the Unreal Engine and now it appears the upcoming release Princess Peach: Showtime! might have also been created in Unreal.

This discovery stems from a post on social media (shared by Akfamilyhome via X), which shows the Chinese game box for Peach’s new game, and on the back of it, you can see the Unreal Engine logo:

Hands On: Quarter Arcades Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade Machine

Let’s kick shell.

If you’re a gamer over the age of 30 with a decent amount of disposable income, then you’ve almost certainly heard of the Quarter Arcades range. As the name suggests, these are 1/4-scale reproductions of famous coin-ops, and the company has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the business to expand its lineup over the past few years – including Namco, Taito, and Konami.

With the likes of Space Invaders, Pac-Man, and Bubble Bobble in its ranks, the Quarter Arcades family can already lay claim to possessing some serious big-hitters – but the arrival of Konami’s 1989 coin-op Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will arguably take things to an entirely new level for players of a certain age.

Review: Tomb Raider I-III Remastered (Switch) – The Best Way To Rediscover A Gaming Idol

When old becomes new.

Not many game franchises manage to ascend to the status of ‘iconic’, but Tomb Raider is undoubtedly one of them. Despite the original trilogy being released for multiple platforms, Lara Croft quickly became synonymous with the PS1, standing toe-to-toe with Crash Bandicoot as one of the console’s mascots. Since then, of course, Lara has been practically everywhere, yet 2024 marks the first occasion the original trilogy has been fully revamped for modern audiences via Tomb Raider I-III Remastered.

We say ‘revamped’, but these are the same games you know and love from the late ‘90s, albeit with the additional expansions included for the first time on console. What developer Aspyr has done here, however, is give all three titles a much-needed lick of paint, boosting the visuals significantly while adding in an optional modern control scheme for those who might not get on with the ageing ‘tank’ controls — more on that later. Smaller additions include a surprisingly robust photo mode and health bars for boss encounters.
