AMD Announces Radeon RX 7600 Desktop Graphics Card

After launching a new generation of desktop graphics cards last December, AMD has officially announced the third GPU in the Radeon RX 7000 line — the RX 7600, succeeding the Radeon RX 6600.

The Radeon RX 7600 features 8GB of GDDR6 memory, a board power of 165 watts, and 32 unified RDNA 3 compute units. AMD’s latest GPU is designed for players that prefer gaming at 1080p resolution. AMD claims the Radeon RX 7600 touts that the RX 7600 performs 34 percent better on average than Nvidia’s RTX 3060 8GB model and 17 percent better than the RTX 3060 12GB model for 60+ FPS and 1080p resolution.

Here’s a highlight of the specs:

  • AMD RDNA 3 Architecture
  • 8GB of GDDR6 Memory
  • 2.25GHz Game Clock
  • Up to 2.66GHz Boost Clock
  • 32 Compute Units & Ray Accelerators
  • 165 Watts of Total Board Power
  • Support for AV1 HW. Encoding

The RX 7600 is designed to be a budget-friendly 1080p GPU and is a good competitor to Nvidia’s recently-released RTX 4060 Ti. While most GPUs today are typically aimed at 1440p or 4K gaming, AMD explains how 1080p is still relevant to the market, citing Steam’s April 2023 Hardware and Software survey, which shows that 65 percent of gamers are still playing games at this resolution.

The Radeon RX 7600 will launch on May 25 for a starting price of $299.

PlayStation VR2 Has Strong Launch Despite Reports, Outselling Original PSVR

The PlayStation VR2 is off to a stronger start than previous reports indicated as Sony has revealed the virtual reality headset had a better launch than the original PSVR.

Shared in a business presentation, Sony revealed that the PSVR 2’s first six weeks outperformed the original PSVR’s first six weeks, coming in at just below 600,000 units sold. Specific numbers are unclear on the provided graph (below), but the original PSVR came in closer to 500,000.

Sony also described the period as a “strong PlayStation VR2 launch”, contradicting a report in March that said the headset was only expected to sell 270,000 units in roughly the same six week period. An industry analyst had said Sony would need to cut the PSVR 2’s price to avoid a “complete disaster”.

The headset launched on February 22 with 42 games, including headlining title Horizon: Call of the Mountain and a variety of virtual reality updates for critically acclaimed games like Gran Turismo 7 and Resident Evil Village.

Sony announced another handful of games at its first PlayStation State of Play of 2023, including sci-fi western The Foglands, mind-bending shooter Synapse, and more. A major PlayStation Showcase is taking place later today, however, promising even more AAA announcements for the headset.

In our 9/10 review, IGN said: “With top-notch visual quality and immersively tactile Sense controllers, PlayStation VR2 represents a quantum leap over its predecessor, setting a new standard for console VR gaming.”

The Entirety of Lord of the Rings: Gollum Leaks on YouTube Ahead of Release

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum launches this Thursday, May 25, but the entire game has been leaked online ahead of release.

We won’t share or link to any spoilers here, but someone posted a video walkthrough of the whole game on YouTube. The video has since been taken down, but it stayed online for several hours before it was removed. There are threads on both Reddit and resetera discussing the leaked footage. IGN has reached out to developer Daedalic Entertainment for comment.

On Thursday, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will launch on PlayStation 5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. A Nintendo Switch version is scheduled for sometime later this year.

Players will sneak around Middle-earth while making choices to align with either the darker Gollum or gentler Sméagol. The gameplay will also feature elements of stealth and parkour.

It’s been a long road to release for Gollum, as the game was originally scheduled to come out in 2021. After a pile of delays, we learned of its current release date earlier this year.

We went hands-on with the game back in March, and we said, “The Lord of the Rings: Gollum does at least make a good first impression, outlining a solid case for piloting one of the strangest and yet most important characters in the lore.”

PlayStation Showcase May 2023: How to Watch and What to Expect

It may be hard to believe, but the first PlayStation Showcase since April 13, 2021, is nearly here. Sure, we’ve had State of Plays and other presentations, but Sony seems to save these showcases for the biggest of moments. I mean, the last one had God of War: Ragnarok, Spider-Man 2, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake, Wolverine, and so much more. So, this is probably one show PlayStation fans don’t want to miss.

This guide will provide you with everything you need to know to watch the latest PlayStation Showcase, including when it starts, a list of places you can watch it with us, and what you can expect.

PlayStation Showcase May 2023 Start Time

The newest PlayStation Showcase will take place on Wednesday, May 24, at 1pm PT/4pm ET/9pm BST. If you live in Australia, this translates to 6am AEST on Thursday, May 25. We may not know exactly what games will be featured in the show, but Sony did confirm the PlayStation Showcase will run for “a bit over an hour.”

The crew of IGN’s Beyond! will also be hosting a special pre and post-show for the PlayStation Showcase that will take place 30 minutes before the start of Sony’s stream and will continue right after it ends. It’s an exciting time as the PlayStation Showcase will also kick off IGN’s Summer of Gaming coverage, and you can check all the details on that right here.

Where to Watch the PlayStation Showcase May 2023

If you’re interested in watching the PlayStation Showcase broadcast yourself, we’ll host the stream here and across our many channels like YouTube, Twitch, Twitter, Facebook, and more. Here’s the full list of places you can watch the PlayStation Showcase on Wednesday, May 24.

What to Expect from the PlayStation Showcase May 2023

Expectations appear to be through the roof for this upcoming PlayStation Showcase as, like we previously mentioned, its the first of its kind since April 2021’s brought us God of War: Ragnarok, Spider-Man 2, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake, Wolverine, and so much more.

PlayStation isn’t confirming any single game that will be part of the a bit over an hour-long showcase, but it did confirm it will focus on “PS5 and PS VR2 games in development from top studios around the world.” We can also expect “several new creations from PlayStation Studios, as well as spellbinding games from our third-part partners and indie creators.”

This showcase also comes at a moment when PlayStation’s console exclusive future isn’t super clear after the arrival of Final Fantasy 16 in June. We know Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is still on track for this year and that Sony’s first-party studios are working on The Last of Us multiplayer experience and Wolverine, but its unclear when those will be released. Naughty Dog did say we would learn more about The Last of Us multiplayer experience this year, and this could be the perfect place for it.

We’re also waiting to hear our next update on third-party exclusives like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which currently has a release window of Winter 2023/2024, and more details on Death Stranding 2, Silent Hill 2 Remake, and Baldur’s Gate 3.

PlayStation also tends to feature big third-party games that also appear on other consoles, so we could learn more about games like Mortal Kombat 1, Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Call of Duty, Alan Wake 2, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, any of the many Star Wars games in development, and more.

There are a lot of unannounced games that could show up at the PlayStation Showcase as well, including the long-rumored Metal Gear Sold 3: Snake Eater remake, a glimpse at the future of the Horizon series on the single-player or multiplayer front, Ghost of Tsushima 2, The Last of Us Part 3, a new Uncharted game, whatever new game God of War 2018’s director Cory Barlog is leading, any of the 10 live-service games PlayStation has confirmed are being worked on, and more.

As for PS VR2, there are a lot of questions in regards to its future and how much PlayStation is going to support it from its first-party studios. PS VR2 launched with Horizon: Call of the Mountain, but will we get VR experiences from PlayStation’s other biggest franchises? We know many would love a sequel to Astro Bot: Rescue Mission and other big hitters from franchises like God of War, The Last of Us, Uncharted, and others. However, big third-party support can be just as valuable, as an announcement the caliber of Half-Life: Alyx would be a big deal.

We’ve mentioned a lot of games here, and hopefully the PlayStation Showcase is filled with many of them and even more surprises. Let us know below what you are most excited to see at the show, and stay tuned to IGN for our coverage of the PlayStation Showcase and all the biggest news, trailers, gameplay, and more!

Everything We Know About D&D’s Deck of Many Things Sourcebooks

IGN was recently given an early look at The Deck of Many Things, a collection containing two books and a pack of cards for Dungeons & Dragons that will focus on the all-power artifact that has appeared in various D&D books and video games in the past. Here’s everything we know so far:

Overview

Release Date: November 14, 2023

Price: $59.95 (estimated)

Length: 272 pages, between two books & a 66-card deck

The Deck of Many Things is a set of two books and a deck of cards expanding upon the magical artifact seen elsewhere in D&D. The card deck itself contains 66 cards, 22 of which were found in the original version plus 44 new ones. The Book of Many Things, a sourcebook that offers options for incorporating the deck into your campaigns, and The Card Reference Guide which teaches how to use the cards.

The Deck of Many Things

The deck itself consists of fully illustrated cards absent any sort of description, merely meant to represent the cards as they might appear within the D&D universe. The 22 cards from the original deck return accompanied by 44 new options.

The Book of Many Things

This accompanying 192-page book “illustrates the deck’s mysteries and provides everything players and Dungeon Masters need to use it in-game.” This includes advice on using the deck, adventure locations, new monsters, character options, magic items, and organizations that have all been inspired by the iconic deck.

The Card Reference Guide

This 80-page guidebook shows how to use the cards either as a traditional oracle deck or to create D&D adventures inspired by the cards. In one such mode the deck can be used to generate adventures randomly by laying out the cards and “reading” them in the same style as a fortune telling.

That’s everything we know about The Deck of Many Things so far!

Save Zaun as Ekko in CONVERGENCE: A League of Legends Story

CONVERGENCE: A League of Legends Story is newly released 2D action platformer from Double Stallion and Riot Forge that stars a young Ekko, the so-called “boy who shattered time,” as he uses parkour, advanced combat, and time abilities to defeat all the enemies that threaten the future of Zaun and all of its people.

CONVERGENCE: A League of Legends Story is all about utilizing Ekko’s abilities to take advantage of a ton of exciting options provided to the players throughout the story-based platformer. When we find Ekko, he is a young inventor who has a device that can rewind time and must work with his friends to keep his city, Zaun, safe. However, he soon realizes he can’t even trust those he holds most dear, including himself.

In League of Legends, Ekko has been using his time-warping abilities to become a fan-favorite Champion since 2015, and fans will soon be able to learn a whole new side of him and unlock skills that aren’t restricted by the balance requirements expected in a MOBA like League of Legends.

Time Rewind Will Give Ekko Another Chance to Succeed

The first of these abilities and one that will be used most often is Time Rewind, Ekko’s core ability that allows him to travel back in time to fix any mistake he may have made. In CONVERGENCE, this will allow players to quickly go back a few seconds to retry any combat or platforming situation they desire.

Time Rewind will be limited by a number of Rewind Charges, but these can be recovered as drops across Zaun, and the total number of charges can be improved as the story progresses. Furthermore, Ekko will be able to craft Gadgets that will augment Time Rewind and his other abilities with such things as a temporary speed boost or a damaging temporal discharge after a rewind.

Chronobreak Is an Ultimate Ability That Could Save Your Day

As it is in League of Legends, Chronobreak is Ekko’s ultimate ability in CONVERGENCE. The ability functions in a similar fashion as it does in League of Legends, and will allow players to flash back to an afterimage of Ekko to at any time to cause a temporal explosion that deals massive damage and knockback.

Chronobreak charges as Ekko damages enemies, and it can even be restored if you accidentally use it early by activating a Time Rewind to the point before you used it!

Timewinder Is Ekko’s Long-Range Solution

Timewinder, alongside being quite the fashionable belt buckle, is Ekko’s signature long-range attack that gives him another way to take down any foe that is foolish enough to get in his way.

As players make their way through any given level, they can throw the Timewinder and watch it expand after a set distance. Timewinder will inflict damage as it heads forward and it will cause damage in the area it ends up at, before rewinding back to Ekko and dealing even more damage as it returns.

Outside of combat, Timewinder will be just as useful, as it can power special electrical sockets that Ekko finds as he traverses the city of Zaun.

Parallel Convergence Slows Down Time in a Pinch

Parallel Convergence was one of the abilities that took developer Double Stallion the most tries to perfect, but it’s one that seemingly could be the most vital in the many life-and-death situations Ekko will undoubtedly find himself in. Parallel Convergence is all about slowing down time in a contained circular area around Ekko, and it has applications in and out of battle.

In battle, Parallel Convergence can help Ekko handle a ton of enemies at once and the projectiles they will fire. By activating the ability, which can be cast much quicker than its counterpart in League of Legends, you will slow down anything that gets in its path, except for Ekko and other Champions that are more resistant to its effects.

Outside of battle, Parallel Convergence will let Ekko slow down certain mechanical elements like collapsing platforms, fire vents, fans, crushers, and more. By using this ability to its fullest, Ekko will have a much greater chance of survival.

Phase Dive Is a Teleporting Move With Huge Damage Potential

The final ability all players need to know about is Phase Dive, and it’s one that Ekko can use to teleport to a target to perform a devastating slash attack. However, it can be used in situations where you need a quick escape as well, making it quite a versatile tool in Ekko’s repertoire.

Outside of combat, Phase Dive can be used to teleport to special nodes in the Undercity and phase through gaps and walls that would be otherwise impossible. You can also use it while traversing Zaun to get out of sticky situations that might get Ekko in a lot of trouble.

These are only five of Ekko’s abilities and players can expect to learn more throughout the game, not to mention the over 20 Gadgets that can further customize them!

CONVERGENCE is out now and is just one of the many games set in the League of Legends universe and follows such other games from Riot Forge as Ruined King, Hextech Mayhem, The Mageseeker, and the upcoming Song of Nunu.

The Biggest Changes Coming to D&D’s Core Rulebooks Overhaul

Next year, all three of the Dungeons & Dragons core rulebooks will get revised versions that renovate Fifth Edition (known as 5E) to make a wide variety of tweaks and improvements. IGN was invited to Wizards of the Coast’s headquarters for an early look at what’s to come, and here is a comprehensive list of all the biggest changes we saw.

The Player’s Handbook Will Now Teach You How to Play D&D

Right off the bat, this is a pretty big improvement. One of the biggest hurdles to getting into D&D is that most times you need to “know a guy.” If you don’t know anyone who’s already familiar with the rules, it can be exceedingly difficult to get started, since the Player’s Handbook mostly just lists rules, but doesn’t offer much in the way of advice for actually organizing, running, or participating in a game session.

In the 2024 edition of 5E, there will be a section focused on teaching you how to play a tabletop RPG before it asks you to make a character. This is the first time such a chapter has ever existing in D&D and should be a welcome change to newcomers.

More Subclasses, Evenly Distributed

The imbalance between 5E’s 12 character classes becomes immediately obvious when looking at the number of subclasses offered. For example, in the current version wizards have a staggering eight subclasses to choose from while bards have only two.

But Jeremy Crawford, a Game Design Architect for D&D, tells IGN that this imbalance will be corrected in 2024’s version of 5E, as all 12 classes will now have four subclasses each.

They’re also just adding more subclasses in general, with a total of 48 available in the Player’s Handbook when it debuts next year.

An Overhaul to Backgrounds and Species

One of the biggest changes Wizards of the Coast disclosed was a rework to Backgrounds and Origins that can already be seen in the Unearthed Arcana preview content that’s already available online.

Backgrounds and Origins have now been folded into a new chapter of the book called “Character Origins,” which takes several elements of character creation and combines them. The chapter is used to answe the question: “Who was your character before they were an adventurer?” and has 144 pre-generated options that can be expanded upon and customized through homebrewing.

Going forward, player Backgrounds will now include a first-level Feat, primarily because that addition makes it possible in future setting materials to create new Backgrounds that include perks exclusive to those Backgrounds.

The section formerly referred to as “Race” is also being rebranded to “Species,” amid player feedback that the latter is more favorable (and accurate) to what is actually being selected by the player. While Race used to be an entire chapter, Species will now be folded into the Origins chapter.

A Bigger Focus on Social Encounters

While 5E has always been great at combat, the other two pillars of the game (social encounters and exploration) often feel much less developed. Wizards hopes to change this at least a little, as they told IGN that “any class that previously lacked out-of-combat utility is gaining it in some way, because we want to make sure that every character has the ability to shine.”

Some classes, like the bard, already have tons of tools for playing outside of combat, so they won’t be gaining any new options, but a lot of the non-magic classes will be getting an update. This includes barbarians, who already have a new ability in the Unearthed Arcana preview that gives them out-of-combat benefits to using their rage ability.

IGN also confirmed that the champions subclass for the fighter is getting some additions to address current non-combat gaps.

A More Focused Dungeon Master’s Guide

It’s no secret that the current version of D&D 5E includes lots of specific tidbits while omitting some pretty basic stuff that every Game Master is likely to deal with, like how to find players or what a game master screen is and how to use it, or how to deal with difficult players. These are all things that every GM is likely to confront during their tenure, and which the current version leaves for GMs to figure out for themselves.

In the 2024 version though, these kinds of questions will be explicitly answered as a means of taking a more hands-on approach to guiding the game’s administrators. There will even be parts dedicated to the creative part of running a game, like writing adventures, creating settings, and more.

There May Be a New Chapter About Building Bases

One thing that was teased by Wizards was a new chapter at the end of the Dungeon Master’s Guide called “Bastions,” which sounds like it’s going to provide rules and mechanics for players who want to build a base of operations for their characters in a campaign. It’s likely the section will contain content similar to third-party 5E expansions like Matt Colville’s Strongholds and Followers, which offers this as an option to players unofficially today.

Unfortunately the team at Wizards kept their cards pretty close to their chest when pressed for details, declining to confirm any real details at this time, but it certainly sounds like something every diehard D&D fan will want to keep a close eye on.

The Monster Manual Will Have More Baddies Than Ever

According to a Wizards representative, the new version of the Monster Manual “will be the biggest treasure trove of monsters the game has ever seen,” and will include new and returning monsters with a total stat block count that’s higher than any previous version.

No current monsters will have their challenge ratings changed (a score that helps GMs navigate encounter difficulty), but since not all monsters are meeting the level of challenge promised by their CR, some monsters will have their stats and abilities adjusted to meet their rating.

As for new monsters, Wizards will be providing more challenging monster ratings for existing enemy factions, with one representative specifically calling out a high CR fae creature, a super-powered Arch Hag, and an ooze monster with a 20+ CR.

The Core Rulebooks Will Not Be Released at the Same Time

While all three of the core rulebooks are being revised at the same time, they will not debut together. According to a Wizards representative, this is a limitation based on the extremely high volume at which they print their books, and their printing partners wouldn’t be able to handle so many copies all at the same time.

Instead, all three books will have staggered releases next year (though those exact dates remain unknown). When asked about the digital versions, which don’t have the same supply chain limitations as physical books, Wizards simply said they aren’t ready to discuss that just yet.

And there you have it! These are all the major changes confirmed to be coming to the core 5E Dungeons & Dragons rulebooks in 2024. For an extensive look at all the rulebooks coming out later this year, check out our breakdown.

Disclosure: This news story was obtained during a recent Dungeons & Dragons event hosted by Wizard of the Coast. The cost of IGN’s airfare and lodging was paid for by Wizards of the Coast as part of the event.
