Nintendo and Illumination have launched a new Super Mario Bros. Movie 30-second commercial and website, recreating the Super Mario Bros. Super Show! cartoon theme song dating back to 1989.
You can watch Mario & Luigi rap and even visit a themed Super Mario Bros. Plumbing website, where you can learn more about their “family-owned and operated” business serving Brooklyn and Queens. There’s even an “About Us” section on the website and some classic references thrown in the customer testimonials.

I have a bit of a confession to make. Back in 2005 when I played Resident Evil 4 for the first time on my trusty GameCube, I completely fell in love with it, but Ramón Salazar and I didn’t get off to the best of starts. After playing through the opening village section of the game, which featured deadly Ganados, the esteemed Dr. Salvador, El Gigante, and the fearsome village chief, Bitores Méndez, my first encounter with Salazar left somewhat of a bitter taste in my mouth.

New game, new name.
We are but a few months away now from the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (finally) and it is fair to say that many of us are just a little bit excited. We recently got a look at the second trailer for it, and one of the ways that we have been channelling this excitement until 12th May is through replaying previous games in the series. This, of course, means that it has once again been time to name The Hero of Time.
For many, there is an obvious answer to this one: Link. That is the name of the series’ lead protagonist, so that is the name that many a dedicated Hylian explorer opts for (bar the odd save file all in lowercase or, in some instances, a file where everyone appears to shout the hero’s name as he goes by, “LINK”).

Last weekend we took a look at Suda51’s Killer7, one of the ‘Capcom Five’ titles from the glory days of the GameCube. The results were… not close — expectedly so, really. The North American cover held onto the top spot with 58% of votes in its favour. This was followed by Europe on 32% and Japan bringing up the rear with only 10% of the vote.

Nintendo has pumped out classic games for its Switch Online service on a consistent basis. There’s kind of a pattern, but that doesn’t necessarily mean fans should expect the same thing when it comes to the newly released retro libraries.
Axios Gaming co-author Stephen Totilo reached out to Nintendo following the launch of the new Game Boy and Game Boy Advance services for Switch Online to ask it how often fans could expect games to be added to the service. In short: “There is no set schedule for new releases, but each collection will continue to grow.”

“Everyone’s name should be included”.
Nintendo surprised pretty much everyone earlier this week when it shadow-dropped Metroid Prime Remastered after years of ongoing rumours.
While most people are satisfied, it seems not everyone out there is happy. Former Retro studios engineer Zoid Kirsch, who recently mentioned how he wasn’t very impressed with the quality of the doors in the remaster, has now voiced his frustration about the game’s credits – noting how it does not include the full original credits.

Double Fine PsychOdyssey, the 32-part, 20+ hour documentary that chronicles the development of Psychonauts 2, is now available for free for everyone on YouTube.
Double Fine PsychOdyssey was created by 2 Player Productions and Double Fine and follows a similar and equally as wonderful documentary that was released for Double Fine’s Broken Age. It’s an extensive, very rare look behind the curtain of game development and you can check it out now by clicking here.

“Double Fine PsychOdyssey is the direct continuation of the acclaimed series Double Fine Adventure, and offers even deeper insight into the passion, humor, and heartbreak of video game development.”
The team at Double Fine also noted that Double Fine PsychOdyssey took six years to make and was created from thousands of hours of footage.
In our review of Psychonauts 2, which was released in August 2021, we said, “It may bring a bit of that mid-2000s action-platformer clunkiness along with it, but Psychonauts 2 is still just about everything I could have hoped for from a sequel to one of my favorite games.”
