Former Rare Director Joel Hochberg Has Passed Away

“Joel changed the course of history”.

We’ve got some sad news on the industry front – with a Miami Herald obituary confirming the former Rare director Joel Hochberg passed away earlier this week, aged 87. Joel lives on through his wife, children, grandchildren and extended family.

As highlighted by GamesIndustry.biz, he signed on with the Ultimate Play the Game and Rare founders Tim & Chris Stamper in 1986, overseeing the company’s business operations within the US, with a division based out of Miami, Florida. During this time he also held a position as the president of Rare’s coin machine company Rare Coin-It Inc.

Sons Of The Forest just received its fourth major patch and it adds some new features to the cannibal survival sim. The more exciting changes might lie in the “improvements”, however, which include things like your sidekick Kelvin being able to carry two logs at the same time and brighter night vision goggles.

Daily Deals: You Can Preorder Tears of the Kingdom and Jedi Survivor Each for $59.99

Just because it’s the weekend doesn’t mean there aren’t some good deals going on right now. You can still use the code IGNZLDA to secure The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom for $59.99, plus one of the best low-cost TCL 4KTVs is back down to its must-grab sale price. Here are the bestb deals for April 22, 2023.

Use Code ‘IGNZLDA’ to Save $10 on Tears of the Kingdom

There are few games as anticipated in 2023 as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and I’m not just speaking for myself here. The vast majority of people are pretty stoked on it, and those who aren’t don’t need to explain themselves. To each their own, I say. Use the code IGNZLDA to get $10, making it the same price as every other new Switch game.

Save $10 on Jedi Survivor Preorders at Newegg

Here’s another massive game hitting soon. Jedi Survivor comes out April 28, and if you preorder it for Xbox at Newegg and use the code SWSVV you can save $10, which is pretty great. This is another game I’m really excited about, but I think Jedi Survivors will probably be eclipsed by Tears of the Kingdom for me.

Great Price on a TCL 55″ Roku 4-Series TV at Walmart

I cannot recommend this TV enough at this price. It’s the exact price I paid for when I got mine a couple years back, and mine is an older model. It’s a great TV for a great price, and if you want good 4K picture with Roku functionality, this is the choice to make. Now go get lost on the streets of Roku City.

Save $200 on This Insane 45″ Ultrawide OLED Curved Monitor

This one is calling out to me, but I don’t have $1500 to spend right now, and even if I did, I don’t know if I have the desktop capacity to house such a large and immersive display. The vertical resolution is 1440, which is fine. You probably won’t even notice.

Huge Discount on Huge PS5 SSD

While games are getting larger and larger, storage solutions are coming down in price pretty rapidly. With 4TB of space, this should hold you over for a while, but who knows how long it is until we get the first 1TB video game download? I bet it’s sooner than any of us want to believe.

MacBook Sales: Lowest Price Ever on 2023 Model and More Deals

Three possibilities for a MacBook, three great deals. The newest model is seeing its best price ever, but the real-savings aren’t quite as massive as the refurb model from Woot. That one includes a full 1-year Apple warranty, so you don’t have to worry about it failing and finding yourself with a very attractive aluminum doorstop.

One of the Most Popular Xbox Controller Colors Is On Sale at Walmart

Everyone loves the tennis-ball colored Xbox controller. When they’re all on sale, this is always the one that sells the most. It’s pretty nice, I’ll admit, and calling it “Electric Volt” instead of ‘Tennis Ball Greenish Yellow’ is a credit to the marketing department at Microsoft.

Upgrade Your Nintendo Switch Storage for Cheap

Stop cleaning out the fridge and just upgrade your Switch storage. At 512GB, you can fit all of your games and still have room left over to download Tears of the Kingdom, which will be the Nintendo Switch’s biggest game, at least until the figure out a way to put COD Warzone on Switch.

2nd Gen Apple AirPods Pro for $199.99

No one should pay full price for AirPods, and this deal is still live. If you were on the fence before, or if you were waiting until you got paid or something, the deal remains!

Talking Point: Which Is Your Favourite Nintendo Controller? Every Nintendo Pad Ranked

Note pad.

Nintendo has always been one for pushing the boat out with its hardware designs, and no more so is this the case than with its controllers. Yes, those of the NES and SNES were pretty conventional by today’s standards (though they were remarkably innovative at the time) but in the ensuing years, the Big N’s controllers have had us waving blocks above our heads, tapping chunky kidney-shaped keys, attaching and detaching buttoned bolt-ons, and even trying to work out how exactly these are meant to be played with only two hands.

Our point is, there’s a lot to choose from when it comes to finding the best Nintendo controller out there. There are so many different options, in fact — and so many different opinions — that attempting to find “the best” feels somewhat like an impossible task.

Feature: Nintendo Players UK – A Decade Of The UK’s Biggest Nintendo Fan Community

Celebrating 10 years of meetups this August.

In the gaming industry, Nintendo sets itself apart not just with the quality of its games and its evergreen catalogue of classic characters, but also a focus on community. Whether through software that brings people of all ages together, hardware features like StreetPass, or the local multiplayer functionality baked into every single Switch console, Nintendo is particularly great at firing up positivity for gaming and giving like-minded fans cause to get together to play and celebrate the games they love. It’s why we’re here writing about them, and why you’re here reading about them. Various Nintendo-focused communities have formed around the world over the years and in the United Kingdom, Nintendo Players UK is the largest.

An independent ‘umbrella’ network of Nintendo fans, NPUK organises physical meetups for gamers in the UK and Ireland and is made up of 29 individual regional communities. Jen Griffiths is part of the NPUK committee and head administrator for this inclusive gaming hub, one which is fast approaching its ten-year milestone this August. “Our ethos,” Jen tells us via email, “is simply to provide free events in person that are inclusive and family-friendly spaces for Nintendo fans to meet and play games with each other.”

Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 22nd)

Our not-so-final fantasies.

Who would have thought that in the run-up to the release of Tears of the Kingdom, we would have so much Switch news to talk about in the space of a week?

Nintendo was really firing on all cylinders this time around, as we got an official release date for Xenoblade Chronicles 3‘s final DLC, four new games added to the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive NSO library (including an early action platformer from Game Freak) and a brand new Indie World showcase.

“I can’t respond to everyone but thanks”.

After jumping through several hoops, Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp has finally launched on the Nintendo Switch. As exciting as it is for many fans of the series, it is perhaps even more exciting for the development team.
