Another Classic Fantasy ARPG Appears To Have Been Teased For Switch

The original Gothic games might be returning…

Nintendo Switch fans could be in for a treat in the near future with an official social media account for the Gothic series seemingly teasing a release of the original fantasy-themed action RPG on the hybrid platform.

Gothic was developed by the German-based studio Piranha Bytes (also known for the action RPG Risen) and released on PC in 2001. This seems to be the second Switch teaser, following a post at the end of last year that teased Gothic II running on Switch.

Random: YouTuber Spends Nearly $23K Buying Every 3DS & Wii U eShop Game

Jirard Khalil completes his preservation mission.

The 3DS and Wii U eShop services are shutting down at the end of this month and that means you’ve only got so much time left to buy all of the digital games you possibly can on Nintendo’s older storefronts. YouTuber, streamer and video game media personality Jirard “The Completionist” Khalil has taken this to the next level by quite literally purchasing every game available on these platforms.

The main driving force behind this idea was video game preservation – with the aim to “save” every 3DS and Wii U eShop title before they are lost forever. The mission was successful but it’s come at a price, with the total amount of purchases adding up to $22,791 USD. Here’s a bit about why Khalil wanted to do this so much:

Storyteller around eleven years ago, which is also the first time RPS wrote about it. It was a story-building puzzle game in which players constructed three-panel comics by dragging and dropping characters and items such that they combined in delightful, dramatic ways.

It looks to still be that, more or less, now that it’s coming out in greatly expanded and polished form next week. Watch the launch trailer below.

Destiny 2 Players Are Gathering In the Tower to Honor Lance Reddick

Destiny 2 players have been gathering en masse at the Tower to honor the late Lance Reddick, who passed away yesterday at the age of 60.

After the news broke yesterday, Guardians began flocking to Commander Zavala, who Reddick famously voiced, to pay their respects. News traveled quickly in the Destiny community as Reddick was not only an avid fan of Destiny, but would occasionally engage with players on social media as Commander Zavala.

Although it’s a bit quieter in the Tower today, just about every instance had Guardians standing stoically in a circle around Zavala yesterday using the “Humanity’s Sheild” emote to signify his character’s larger-than-life presence, or sitting amongst their fellow Guardians while attending a impromptu candlelight vigil.

Over on the /r/DestinyTheGame subreddit, the post honoring Reddick quickly rose to become the 2nd most popular post across all of Reddit, with plenty of community members and former Bungie developers sharing their favorite memories of Zavala, or Reddick himself.

Reddick’s passing hit especially close to home for Guardians, as they’ve spent the past nine years alongside his character in-game. As I popped into various livestreams on Twitch yesterday, it seemed like it was all people were talking about. Likewise on Twitter, where just about everyone in the Destiny community was sharing screenshots of the Tower, or posting videos showcasing all the Guardians that had gathered to pay tribute to Zavala.

Bungie also put out an official statement following the news stating that “Lance Reddick was an iconic presence on screen, in Destiny, and most importantly, in person. His love for our community shined through in Commander Zavala, in his uncompromising dedication to his craft, and out of the radiating kindness that touched those around him. To say he will be missed is a profound understatement, yet no less true. Rest in peace, Lance.”

In the words of Commander Zavala, “Eyes up, Guardian.”

Talking Point: What Makes A Really Good Demo?

Time is money.

As the Switch eShop library continues to grow, so too does the number of available demos. And hey, demos are great!

This convenient way to try before you buy has got us hooked on many a game that we may never have otherwise picked up, and with a number of demos offering the chance to carry your data over from the trial into the full version, playing through introductions increasingly feels purposeful instead of ‘ugh, I’m going to have to play all of this again in the full version, aren’t I?’
